I only use a 150~watt ballast w/hps bulb and lamp. but i say i was very happy to get mine in a complete package all together @ $85 ebay. perhaps find a complete 'kit' with everything you need so you dont have to worry about any incompatibilities or troubles. just my safe suggestion from a novice closet grower anywho best of luck on your lighting choice and best wishes on ur crops
