I have a Sun Systems 10 1000W switchable magnetic ballast. I was wondering if you can use a 600w bulb with that ballast or if you have to use a 1000W.
pretty sure you could damage the bulb. why not just dial it down to the wattage you need from the 1000w bulb. if you cant do that, then get a new bulb/ballast.
That's what i figured. I bought it from a new hydro shop in town and he said it would work for anything up to a 1000W. It goes to show you that just because they own a shop doesn't mean they know anything about growing. Thanks for the help
well, you could probably do it, and get away with it problem free. BUT i would read the papers that came with the ballast. i know i seen on a lumatek one that they are not to be used with any other bulb except for which they are rated. glad i could help, call the manufacturer for clarification.
You actually can use a lower watt bulb in that 1000 watt ballast. Bulbs are like fuses, use a lower one and it will work BUT it will burn out A LOT faster. I have done it.
