Baking with dry ice hash

Discussion in 'Cannabis & Weed Edibles: Cooking & Recipes' started by Nuggetawesome, Sep 9, 2012.

  1. I made a bunch of dry ice hash yesterday and I have a little put aside I would like to cook with .I was wondering when I do this am I still going to have to extract the THC using butter or some kind of fat ,or will it be fine to just throw a bunch in my batch of whatever ?

  2. You haven't read the stickies or tried the search feature yet, have you.. :p

There's a whole thread just about devoted to cooking with sifted hash, stuck to the top of this very forum! :hello:

In a word or six, yes, you'll need to make oil. :)

Hash (concentrates, dry-sift, bubble, kief etc.) is still infused with and made bioavailable by using 'edible solvents'
such as oil, alcohol or glycerin, for the best edibles and drinkables.

It also requires activation depending on how it was made, where some concentrates are thoroughly heat purged
and activation can occur during that process. It's the same glandular material on the plant matter, and as such it requires the
same processing in order to be potent and easily absorbed.

Eating hash 'raw' or without the correct processing and infusion, is virtually no better than eating raw flowers/herb. The only
difference is that it lacks the inert plant matter.

If your body was capable of easily absorbing that potency, then extraction and infusion wouldn't be such a huge issue,
and we wouldn't have NEARLY as many failed edible stories. :p

Cannabis glandular material is notoriously difficult for the body to digest and absorb, even when activated, even when in
the form of a gooey or tacky concentrate.

We use the 'edible solvents' we do, not just to strip glandular material from the inert plant matter, but because those solvents
are highly and readily absorbable by the body, and they are responsible for facilitating the absorption of our potency. :)

Without these easily-absorbed carriers or potency delivery 'vehicles', much of our potency bounces off our cell walls,
rather than passing through them, and it continues down our tract for 'evacuation' without ever being delivered to the
    bloodstream.

Creating a solution with a bioavailable oil source is the same method used to promote bioavailability in many
    medications
, vitamin supplements, and even (to a lesser extent) similar to how we absorb more nutrition from the
    foods
    we eat.
In the pharmaceutical industry, when an active chemical component is coated with oil to improve bioavailability, it's known
as liposomal encapsulation, LET, or 'metabolic enhancement'.

And that's what we're doing, when we spend the time to make a proper batch of oil!

Liposomal treatment can allow for instance in the case of vitamin C, amounts sometimes up to fifteen times smaller
than originally required, to deliver the same chemical load to the bloodstream. It's why untreated ascorbic acid (sometimes
called vit. C powder) requires that you take 3,500% - 4,500% of your daily value, while liposomally treated vitamin C will
usually only require that you take 150% - 500% of your daily value.

The below is from a website that sells their own liposomal vit. C..

    - 1,000 mg plain vitamin C tablet or capsule

Absorption 19% = 190 mg into blood stream

    - 1,000 mg liposomal vitamin C (1 tsp)

Absorption 93% = 930 mg into blood stream

Liposomal encapsulation is considered, by the pharmaceutical industry, to rival intravenous delivery.

Even with the same herb, you have options for achieving different effects based on the length of heat processing.

Continued heat processing causes additional cannabinoid conversion and the formation CBN, which can regulate
the experience and sensations provided. [IMG]

When following the above directions, choose one of the below options depending on your desired outcome...

    - For a cerebral, racy and up 'cerebral high', process just as described.

    or

    - For more narcotic, couch-lock, sedated or 'stoned' sensations, continue processing in oil for between 2 - 4
additional hours. This encourages the formation of CBN, and slightly increases the ratio of CBG and CBN to the remaining
    THC.

Then, you have oil based drinkables...

And with a tincture, you can expand and 'lighten' your drinkable options... glycerin and alcohol tinctures do require
more patience than oils, during processing, however.

    Even sushi is easy!

Alcohol and glycerin hash tinctures in the sushi rice (which calls for mirin, a rice wine, sugar and vinegar... some
sushi rice recipes also call for oil, so hash oil may be used as well), and a touch of alcohol tincture with the water,
that is used to hydrate the wasabi. [IMG]

And if you want something really simple... just pop your oil into capsules when you're done!

These keep better than any other edible.. on a shelf, in a desk, or in the freezer.. and they're always ready for eating. [IMG]
