Baking Kief

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by kidnamedcudi, Nov 10, 2010.

  1. I have a high micron silk screen and i often just take all my shake from a big grab and after a little work ill get a big ol pile of really pure kief.

I store them in cigarette cellophane wrappers, and usually just top bowls with it.

One time i tried to turn half a cigarette wrapper full of keif into black hash, i put it in the oven covered in wet paper towel, and let it bake for about 20 mins

when i pulled it out, it was a sandy brown color but it was hard and the inside was still crystally.

This wasnt really what i was going for, i know about qwiso and BHO and all that, but is there a way to make my kief hash more gooey?

What temperatures should i bake it at and for how long?

i rolled it afterwards but that just seemed to compress it further and make it harder, instead of softer.

    :smoke: thanks

  2. One of the easier home-methods is taking your hash/kief, and wrapping it in an -oven bag-, the kind of bags you use to cook a chicken or veggies with in the oven. Wrap your kief tight/flat inside the bag or a piece of the oven bag, then wrap that in damp newspaper, or some other absorbent paper (it's wasteful and requires more water at times, but paper towels work).

Put the damp bundle in a frying pan over a medium-low heat. If it's a very small piece, you could use something like a spoon to press while it's being heated, but usually, you'll insert a smaller pot or frying pan into the larger heated pan, and on top of the paper-wrapped hash, then press.. it's important that you keep the paper damp, in order to transfer the heat well. Without using a buffer, like damp hot paper, it will over-burn your hash.

After a few moments you'll have that gooey hash you're looking for. It will take a few tries with your tools and varying temperatures to get it right, don't cut corners with the process, and just remember that early on it's better to start out slow, and make more work out of the process, that way you'll still end up with something nice and usable, rather than over-doing it and ruining it all together.

    Good luck :)

  3. Thanks man I'll try it again tonight. I don't get the oven bag thing though.. I have no clue what that is, but I'll put damp newspaper around the cellophane wrapper and try it on the pan tho. Thanks bro :D

  4. You should be ok with the cellophane with lower temps.. oven bags you can buy at any grocery store, usually in the baking or cooking supplies/tools sections, or where the food storage bags are kept.

They come in boxes of 5 or 10, they are highly heat resistant because they are made for cooking meat and veggies in the oven.. so, due to their heat resistance, they're great for hash processing, and because they are less porous and do not degrade as quickly, they store your weed better than normal bags (you could see it as a step, between ziplock bags and proper jars), they keep the herb from drying out, and prevent odors from escaping (it prevents odors from leaking so efficiently that, when wrapped well enough, it allows plant matter to slip by undetected by not only humans, but even some canines).

In any case, good luck with your hash and enjoy :)
