Bad wiring and my ballast??

  1. So first off I have crappy wiring in an old trailer and I think I may have power surges so I plugged it into a surge protector along with the timer and it kicked on just fine but halfway through a cycle it just went out then I restarted it and it kicked on just fine then shut off after a while again, so I then plugged it back in the wall because I had no choice and Im pretty sure the normal socket blew my light... I dont want to dump a bunch of money into an unfix-able problem and I plan on moving but does anyone know anything about why it would cut out like that or how I can prevent it?? or anyone know what kind of solar cells and such I would need to provide enough energy to power a 600w ballast running a 600w hps??... I dont know what to do I had to take my plant out of the cabinet and sit it in the sun any advice or suggestions would be appreciated... thank you for your time Jah Bless...

  2. I would go with a 250 watt metal halide if I was in your position. Sounds bad, good luck!

  3. How do other devices in the house work? Air conditioner, TV, microwave, ect. Does any of that stuff cut out? Does this light cause your breaker to trip over? Also, does the wiring look modern? What gauge is the wiring? They should be using 12 gauge for a 20 amp breaker while 14 gauge should be fine for a 15 amp circuit.

  4. Solar cells are way to expensive to power that thing. Youll spend probably a thousand bucks to get them. You also cant simply plug in a solar cell you have to get some associated converter boxes. Heres a link to one. 250w for 400 bucks and thats max power. Any clouds power gets cut by more then half. Then its the fall so less light. Youd have to have probably 4 or 5 to get a sustained 600 watts.

A surge protector will only protect you from a surge not if your wiring or breaker is bad.

  5. yeah the other appliances are screwy as well in fact theres a whole circuit that cuts out for minutes at a time, so I moved it to a more solid outlet the gauge in the wiring is huge (in fact the guy at the hardware store said the gauge is only legal in a few states still) the light itself and the ballast both ran properly and never tripped the circuit its just like when the ballast starts up and just the fan is running then the light boots back up... or did till it blew out, like the ballast wasnt getting enough juice for a minute... I do plan on moving but not till december but the shops here are going through some bullshit to where they have to shutdown and all the card holder have to grow there own so this has gone from a hobby to my supply... theyre not shut down yet but I only have a few weeks to get clones and seeds from the shop...

your a saint bud thanx :)
