Bad results from rapid rooter plugs.

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by Baked Bread Baker, Apr 14, 2018.

  1. I put 2 germinated seeds in plugs. Both started out fine but after the first set of true leaves formed they both curled under and eventually died. Thinking it may have been the seeds I tried 2 more.

The 1 seed broke ground a couple days before the other on round 2. Started showing the same leaf curl symptoms.

At the same time I had some tomato seedlings in rapid rooter as well. They were looking pretty bad so I tore a plug open to find the smallest little taproot with almost no expansion. All 8 tomato seedlings were fucked. Meanwhile other vegetable seedlings in jiffy pucks were already shooting out roots out the bottom.

The second cannabis seedling had just broken ground so I decided to rip apart the plug and put it in a jiffy puck.

The results? Rapid rooter is on right (it topped itself after the 3rd node). The plant on the right was a few days behind the left and was transferred from a rapid rooter to a jiffy puck.

  2. I've never used rapid rooters, only peat pellets. I'm glad I read this as I have wanted to switch. But with the success I've had with peat pellets combined with this thread. I'm going to stick with the peat pellet/jiffy puck.
    Thanks for the read BBB.
