Backup battery/surge protector?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by emt1581, Oct 8, 2023.

  1. I'd like to get a backup battery that can also serve as a surge protector. That way if I need to unplug and move my little 2x2 tent or in the event of a surge or power outage...no problem.

I don't want serious overkill. Just enough to keep the light, fan, etc. going for a few hours max.

    What do ya'll use?

    Thanks!

  2. I had solar panels and stuff during covid, but since then eotw- end of the world situation, is in an old box in the attic - all waiting for putin to push the button

I added up the watts required total(with a killerwatt) and went hunting for the solar panels
but wish I got a wind turbine at half the price now, with me in Sweden theirs a lot of cloud ...lol

growing photos is cheaper being 12 hours a day perhaps 2 weeks after germ

    cheers

  3. how long do you want aux power for? What is the total watt draw with your system?

  4. Haven't done that math yet. I have an HLG 3000k board with a Mean Well 154 driver. Then a small vivosun oscillating fan and then however many watts the 4" exhaust fan consumes.

I would want a minimum of an hour of power. But more would increase comfort.

    Thanks

  5. well based on the fact this is a 2x2 so lets say 30 watts for ex fan, 250 watts for light, plus oscillating fan is around 300 watts. This should buy you about 2 hours with everything on (fans, lights no other accessories)

  6. not really worth it IMHO

I already have one of these...

However, I know mine and I think the one you posted can't charge AND supply power simultaneously.

I have a bunch of generators. All I need is time to get one out, run the cord, hook up the propane and fire it up.

    Thanks

EDIT: This is what I was thinking. A UPS. Just don't know which are good and how long one will buy me...

EDIT 2: Fan just arrived. It's 20 W. We'll see what the exhaust fan eats.

  8. the aux power unit you have will run everything for about an hour. The UPS you linked will run your exhaust fan only for a little over an hour. FWIW.

  9. if you have generators, dont mess with this stuff and just use them. Much more efficient and able to power you up for days. my 2 centavos.

  10. I have long been under the impression that if a plant's lighting is interrupted, even briefly, it can produce some funky results. Is this not correct? Is there really no issue with a 15 min or even 3 hour lapse in it's light cycle?

This is why I've created this thread....to find a safe option for UNINTERRUPTED power rather than one from a regular battery or generator. Uninterrupted power means no issues. But if the lights can go out and come back on whenever, then yes....I'll just keep the battery or a small generator handy and be good to go.

Clarification would be appreciated, especially if I've been mistaken all these years.

    Thanks!

  11. You can go 5 days of total darkness with zero issues any stage of growth
Surge protector for a fan not needed For a light not needed. For a hifi stereo amplifier that cost 5000k yes indeed. But if your ocd and need to protect the equipment just hit the local hardware strore buy some plug in surge protectors for 10 bucks each .

  12. not a problem. been there done that. I have my tent in a room with a light on and lower flaps open in flower and no problems. The light sensitivity issue is way overblown imho. Guys swear that a pinhole light leak will cause hermies and all sorts of mayhem. Not in my experience. Had lights go out for a day in flower and in veg and no probs.

  13. Seriously??? I always thought screwing with the light cycle would screw them up. One issue would be stopping flowering and another turning the plant male or hermaphroditic. Both are BS?

    Thanks

  14. Sure if you changed light times often it will herm plants. How many power losses do you expect ?
When i say mess with the light times not just a two hour loss during there day once every two weeks.
If your power get messed up all you need to do is 24 hours of darkness it will reset the plants internal timer . You wont hurt them.

  15. Did not know any of this!! Thanks for the info. Truth be told, we've lost power twice in the past twelve years. But again, I thought ANY messing with the light cycles screwed them up. So I was looking to be prepared. Sounds like I'm good. Thanks again for the info!

  16. cheers

  17. And if you did want to change what time you were flowing like 12 pm on 12 am off well you want to do 12 off 12 am on so on anytime you want . .... all you need to do is just turn the light off for 24 hours then switch it
