Hey all, so I just received my B. Wilson clear disc slide this morning, and when I opened it I found a few things. 1. The worksmanship of the screen is amazing you don't see small work like that often. 2. There seems to be a lot of physical flaws with it. The top of the bowl isn't even it's kind of wonky, there are a couple air bubbles in the handle, and the outside of the actual bowl part seems to have tool marks the entire way around from spinning, so I can only guess from the lathe. Now as far as the wonkiness goes, I can forgive that because it'd be hard to get something so small perfectly level, but the air bubbles in the handle and the tool marks? That can't be normal! Anyone else get their slides like this, or is this something I should complain about and request a new one?
What color is your handle. I know when I work certain colors In the flame it gets air bubbles. Happens with greens alot for me. As far as tool marks I know id never send out a piece I banged up with my claw grabber.
It's his clear slide. I've seen pictures of a number of other B. Wilsons with the newer style handles and they all seem to have one or two air bubbles in em, so it's not a huge deal. But yea the tool marks, well, you can actually feel them if you spin your fingers around the outside it's almost like there are little scratches in the glass...
The clear one that came with my SG stemline from H20LabTech sounds like yours. A few spots that are rough to the touch and very noticeable lathe marks. I've thought about using a torch to flame polish the rough spots out, but don't want to compromise the the strength of the glass. Still amazing airflow, and for a non-heady piece, I'm not gonna worry about flaws.
Sounds pretty normal. B Wilson DD aren't known for being flawless, they are known for being awesome in functionality however.
Fair enough, not gonna bother replacing it at this point really the longer it's sitting here the less I care I just always get immediately OCD about new toys Wish they'd listened to my request for one of the smaller bowls as it looks like about half to 3/4 filled is gonna be my average snap rather than being able to just load it, but can't complain I guess.
