Autos in hydro system?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by KeepitTrilla, Aug 1, 2012.

  1. My 1st grow didnt turn out so well so i was thinking about going with autos this time around. but someone told me that autos and hydroponics dont really mix well.. can someone shed some light on this cant really find any good info. If any one has any prior experience growing autos inhydro or knows of a strain that flourishes in a hydro system feel free to comment!

  2. I wouldn't go with autos your 2nd time growing. It's always best to be successful first at growing normal plants, and once you've gotten the hang of things, then maybe try some autos.

  3. i thought autos were better for beginners?

  4. They are if your careful. Some auto strains are very sensitive to nutes, and you dont give them grow nutes at all, just bloom nutes. They grow pretty fast, and stay pretty small. Im growing a dinafem roadrunner, and a female seeds grapefruit right now, and they are growing super fast. I planted them less than 2wks ago, and they are already about the size of a 3 or 4wk old plant.

  5. I have an auto blue mammoth (barneys) seed I've been saving and plan on using in a dwc. I say just be very gentle on the veg nutes and you should be fine. When in doubt, use less.

  6. I was using the lucas formula (Micro/bloom) is that possible with autos or no?

  7. Yea, if whatever your using is working, then keep using it. Ive got my 1st auto plants growing now, and I havent given them any nutes yet cuz I read that they dont need grow nutes. I dont think micro/bloom will hurt cuz micro is fed throughout the grow, and they only need bloom nutes, not grow.

  8. so whats a good sign to know that there ready to be given nutes?

  9. I was going to wait until their about 3wks old, and give them a dilluted dose of nutes.

  10. In hydroponics plants react to changes quickly since there is no buffer like soil. I would also have to agree that autos in hydro is probably more difficult than your normal photo period plants. I'm planning on easing in to the nutes and keeping an eye on here for the first few hours after making a fresh batch of slop. That way if its obvious that its too stout i can remove say a gallon of the mix and replace with ro water. I'm damn nervous about putting my last auto seed into dwc, but its gotta be done... i'll pry use the lucas formula but maybe cut it in half or quarter to start out...

A plant can't survive in hydro off plain water for 3 weeks. You'll have to mix a light batch from the get go.

  12. My super skunk plant did, and she's 6ft tall now, and 4wks into flowering. It might have been 2 1/2wks from sprout, but I didnt give it any nutes at all at first. Idk about the autos though, Im growing mine in soil outside.

  13. But most autos have a lifespan of about 60-80 days, you couldn't survive (ok thrive/flourish/whatever ) for almost the first 25% of your life without food. Maximize what you can get. Start off weak, hell even 1/8 dose is what I'm thinking, I'm tired of autos, too many different phenos and genetics, i like the more stable photoperiod plants.

  14. Thats true, I didnt think about all of that. I got the autos just for fun, and I like the idea of being able to start 2 plants every 2 weeks and have a consistent personal stash throughout the summer. My indoor super skunk is my real grow. Depending on how they look, I might use the auto plants to make a batch of hash with, buds and all.

  15. Thats exactly why i was thinking about growing some autos ill just have them growing in the tent with another reg strain growing in there

If you were to do that I'd start the auto about 3 weeks prior to popping the other bean, that way you can veg the reg one on 24/0 and flower the auto at the same time... autos love long hours of light.

  17. whats the difference between growing them?

  18. i thought autos grew under any kind of light? i wanted to have them all growing at once

  19. Some of these auto strains look like they are pretty good. I was thinking about getting some regular auto seeds, and since they show their sex in 17 to 21 days, you can sacrifice a grow and pollenate a few females and then have a perpetual supply of fast growing seeds.

They do, but just as vegging plants grow faster under 24 hours of light vs 12 hours, autos flower (bigger?) faster stronger BIGGER buds under 24 hours of light because they aren't photo period sensitive, but more limited lifespan, which means grow them under as many hours of light as possible to make the most out of it. My critical auto is looking like 1 oz give or take, grown outdoors in good ol sunlight, i bet my indoor one under 24/0 makes double that.
