Long run, can someone roll just as good as an auto roller? Is a grinder necessary for one to roll joints? What are the best papers?
Cigarette rollers are good at what they do but by hand there is much more variety as to the ways in which you can roll (cones, tulips, etc.). A grinder really is the way to go but you can just as easily use a shot glass and scissors, but doing it by hand will never be as functional. And that's just opinion.
rolling a joint is pretty easy once youve done it a few times rollers do the job just fine, but i see them as just one more thing i have to carry around. grinders help a whole fuckton, but theres nothing wrong with hand-breaking it when you don't have one handy if you break it down as small as you possibly can and make sure to ditch every little stem imo a paper is a paper.
A paper is absolutely not a paper. I bought a pack of Smoking Black ultrathin papers a couple weeks ago, because I wanted to learn how to roll and I figured if I could do it with those, I could do it with anything. Awful decision. Hard as fuck to roll with. Went out and bought a pack of zig-zags, orange pack, 1 and 1/4. Great papers, very very easy to roll with. Also found it's a lot easier to roll straights with a roach/filter in (rolled index card or business card cutout), but a lot easier to roll cones without one. So, to start rolling, I'd suggest a lower-end paper, like zig-zags. although they really are great, they don't taste bad, they're fairly slow burning, etc. Now that I'm getting a little better, though, I've started working with those Smoking Blacks again...and they really are a step up. So, once you're good, move up a little bit. But, hand-rolled all the way. Take the time to get good at something, don't just buy the machine.
rollin by hand is the best way to go imo. its fun, its a skill (stoner skill, but still). they probably wont be the best starting out, but the more practice the better they get. i bought one of the cheap zigzag rollers, used it maybe 4 times than started rolling by hand. grinders are great cause they break the bud nice and even, versus having small bits and bigger chunks of bud tryin to balance in the joint. even bud helps the joint burn evenly. papers can differ a lot. the thinner they are the more difficult to roll, at least for a beginner roller. yea start with some zig zags or a similar one, theyd work great for starting. yea the orange 1 1/4 work great (like ^^said), and youre gonna be messin up quite a bit at first so having some cheap papers is better than wasting the more expensive ones. i started with juicy j's but they cant sell them anymore. now ive been using Irie (brand) hemp papers, theyre pretty thin but roll really well and burn smooth. once ya get rollin just try some different papers and find ones ya enjoy rollin and smoking. id usually pick up a pack of my regular papers and then some other brand to try out. i was smoking a lot of js though, id go through about a pack of papers a week
i say use rollers if your in rush or something but i wouldnt use em all the time just if i didnt feel like rolling. Ive heard of people whove broken their arms and shit usin rollers cause their cast gets in the way. personally i like handrollin but thats just me
In my opinion, I don't think you can fully cement your status as a "stoner" until you can roll a solidly smokeable joint. Autorollers often roll the really sticky weed too tight and use too much bud. Blunts are great, but they have room for error, and you sort of have to work with it over a period of time to eventually get the shape you need, while joints really boil down to one simple twist of the fingers that you have to learn to get a beautiful cone. But to be honest, my friends, the sight of a nicely rolled cone is perhaps the most beautiful part of smoking weed.
hand-rolling FTW. I agree with the others when they said your not 100% a stoner if you can't roll your own joints. Its all about the technique in the fingers when you are adjusting the bud in the paper. It takes A LOT of practice, at first they won't come out how you wan't them too, but dont get frustrated, I can say it took me about 6 months to master the skill, and 1 year to perfect it, I can roll a flawless joint in 10 seconds +/-. Using a grinder makes rolling easier, but some people prefer breaking it up by hand, and since its little pieces it doesnt make as much of a mess. I personally LOVE joints, I would smoke them all the time if it wasn't for the health factor of it, and cause I have a vape. 1 1/4 JOB or Zig-Zags, (good to start with esp since cheap), right now I'm using Canadian Goose alot. I recieved a pack of these new Dragonfly: Maple syrup papers from the owner of the headshop i frequent he told me to try them out, the pack comes inside another air sealed packet for freshness, and let me say it makes a difference and I really enjoy the smoke. Anyway about the rolling machine, you should buy one just to buy one they are cheap like $5 (plastic)- $10 (metal). I own one and it make life so much eaiser sometimes when you dont feel like rolling a joint, or are extremely fuckked up and can't roll a joint, or you just want to roll quickly. But yeah..thats my opinion on the matter.
crazy legs; is it 100% true that they won't sell Juicy Jays anymore? I have heard both sides and even see definite links that it is true, but still see so fucking many in all the head shops I go to. I rarely smoke joints, but if these papers are going out, might need to stock up on that sizzling bacon flavor, hahaha.
yeah they banned them, they pulled them off the shelf in most of the headhsops in my town, I only know of one that carry them, and they aren't like the old ones with flavors and patters they are solid colored (white) and come in a purple pack called limited edition. And online there are only a few hops that sell them now.
i roll just as good as rolling machines http://forum.grasscity.com/general/536331-perfect-stick-roll-lol-rate-my-jay.html
yea cause of obamas "flavored tobacco products ban" law they cant sell them. im sure there are places ya can get them, and shops online. theyre not illegal to have, stores in the states just cant carry/sell those products. depending on the store, some owners have the balls to carry some shit anway. in montana its illegal to sell blunt wraps, cause blunt means weed not tobacco rolleyes, but one head shop owner carried them anyway just had them stashed away and ya had to ask this was quite a few months ago, so odds are its too late to stock up. i went to my usual tobacco shop and bought a couple packs, they had them on sale cheap cause they were the last. havent been back in awhile though.
yeah whats good with that bill about flavored tobacco cause in cali were still rollin flavored wraps for days.. i heard about the whole banning of it but every gas station/head shop has flavored tobacco products here still
maybe it hasnt gone into effect yet. part of the bill was regulating cigarettes too, more warnings, changing the names like "mild" to something else so ppl dont think theyre less dangerous or something. and i dont think any of that has happened yet either, i dont smoke milds or any of those though
i use a roller.. don't have the patience to learn to roll a joint when i can grind up some bud and throw it in there and have a perfect jay in a minute or two
