Austro-libertarian/AnCap/Market Anarchist circle jerk thread

  1. You are failing to realize that government is a special interest. They take money from one person to give to another person. They disrespect one person's rights and give an entitlement to another person.

Your argument is like saying 'fish would be good if it didn't have that fishy taste.'

  2. I would also like to know how equal protection under the law is equivalent to 'shitting' on small business.

  3. 2 questions.

Does a government need a society in order to exist?

I'm not sure what you mean. Their is no incentive for the government to cater to its own interests. I'm not even sure what those interests might be. Nobody gets rich on the salary of a public official. They make their money by catering to the interests of business, whether that means Wall Street or weapons manufacturers or even the farming industry. The only self interest the government has is the personal incentive of every individual publicly elect official to make sure they maintain a positive image in the eyes of the people and their campaign donors, so that they can win the next election.

  5. How is that different from a private corporation that has to make sure they maintain a positive image in the eyes of the share holders and investors?

Career politicians do it for the money/power. I imagine they are all seeking a trip through the ever-lucrative revolving door. Public choice theory.

  7. What I mean is what would all those lobbyists do if there wasn't a government? Perhaps we have different definitions of special interest. Special interest means to gain a benefit at the cost of another through coercion. Gov't gets money (benefit) by taking it from people (cost) through coercion. If you are concerned about special interests then you should want to get rid of gov't...nip it in the bud.

  8. You took my thunder about the greed for power! lol

  9. Gov't has the interest to grow and to procure more influence, revenues, and power...which comes at the cost of peace and prosperity. Why do you think after every crisis the gov't plan is 'give us more money and power and we will fix the problem'? Even when gov't caused the crisis ie. 9/11, the 2008 financial collapse, etc.

I would rather nip special interests in the bud and solve the problem without having to deal with the consequences of anarchy. We clearly have very different views on what a government is and how it operates in the U.S. How exactly does taxation benefit the government in and of itself? You say it takes money from the people through coercion, but why stop your argument there? It's true that there are plenty of people who benefit from those tax dollars, and it's also true that there are plenty of people who benefit from our aggressive foreign policy. The thing is, none of those people work for the government. It wasn't congress who had their bonuses paid with bailout money, it was the bankers on Wall Street. It's not the President who makes billions of dollars a year on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, it's the weapons manufacturers.

Let's be real, no one runs for public office in America because it's a glamorous job with unlimited power. Politicians have to kiss so much ass just to get elected that the only thing they're concerned about is keeping everyone who voted for them and paid for their campaign happy. Then, they can send a few votes the way of certain lobbyists and earn themselves more money on the side. The real money comes when they step down from congress and become a lobbyist themselves. Then, they're making 300K a year greasing the palms of their old connections. Power in America comes in hundred dollar bills. Nobody runs for president because they want to take executive power to a new level and suppress the people. Not even Bush. I think it's just unreasonable to view the U.S. government as some kind of power hungry machine run by a bunch of tax dollar stealing fascists. The real power is the money, and those who have the money use it to influence those in power.

The military industrial complex and big oil were the real beneficiaries of the Government's response to 9/11, and those tax dollars in 2008 went to Wall Street bankers. Those are private corporate interests who used their influence in government to take advantage of the two biggest crises of the last decade.

  11. So why does the government help them procure profits?

  12. The money the gov't steals is going to be spent. People try to get that money to be spent on their interests. If you want to argue about who gets the money you miss the point about why is the money there in the first place. That money and the entitlements that gov't offers brings out the worst in people. What are these 'consequences' of there being no gov't money to fight over (anarchy)?

  14. Good question. It appears to be more than just political contributions and campaign donations. I think it's naive to believe that these corporations are just riding in the wake of a power hungry government. I think it's self-evident that the government has been hijacked by the interests of big business and wall street. The regulatory agencies, for example, are filled with ex-executives from the same corporations they're supposed to be regulating. All too often, we have bills written by written by people who work for companies in the industry those bills are meant to legislate. Whether or not these are solvable problems is what is up for debate.

There are plenty of consequences to anarchy, but this is an AnCap circle jerk thread and I've done enough hijacking already.

I'll just say that you've got to be insane to believe that people wouldn't be lining up to fill the power vacuum that would exist in an anarchy here in the U.S. The economy would collapse immediately, we'd turn into a third world country overnight, and a second civil war would be quick to follow.

  15. Yea, apparently some people think absolute power can be self-regulated.

  16. The economy has collapsed many times with gov't. There has been a civil war with gov't. Instead of flinging around baseless accusations and assumptions try defending the horrible track record of gov't. That's your problem...you project your hopes on gov't and project your fears on liberty. You can keep thinking it's about having the right officials and the right policy or you can get real and see gov't for what it is.
