Audiophiles Unite ^_^

  1. Anybody here crazy about their audio?

I am currently rocking an HM-801 and a pair of JH16's for my tunes.

I am coming to the realization that finding shit in FLAC format is a pain in the nuts.

I use allflac.com but they really don't have EVERYTHING so i might just start buying CD's and ripping them into FLAC myself.

Not sure if there is another thread like this, but if not..

Post your setup here, share share share ;) ill post some pics in a bit

Dude im a nut when it comes to audio! A lossless format (MAC) is the absolute best IMO.I dont listen to compressed music files (mp3 ect..) Im sporting Coustom in ear moniters, i use to record and listen to my music heres a pic.

  3. Here are my baby's

  4. If FLAC/other lossless formats were more readily available I may turn into one of y'all, but like OP said, it's just not that easy to find everything you want.

  5. Feel like a noobie..

When did this 'hifiman' thing get released? Looks kind of big and bulky to me.

I just use an ipod with ipod headphones.. Dont really buy into the whole hi-def aspect of music. Theres a certain extent to where your brain and ears are not capable of hearing that much of a difference between say, regular Ipod headphones and beats by Dre.

not sure, came out awhile ago though.

it is not your run of the mill audio player..

it is a portable DAC and DAP. So, dumbed down that means not only is it a player, but it is has an amplifier built in as well, which is necessary to power high end custom IEM's such as the pair i own.

and the DAC can be used as USB DAC so i can hook this thing up to my lappy or whatever and use it for higher quality audio output to my headpwnz

here is a link to give you a perspective on what it is..

HiFiMAN HM-801: Desktop-Class Digital Sound, To Go

you would also be poorly mistaken to believe that you cannot tell the difference beyond an ipod and dre beats.

    - you realllllllly can't knock it till you experience it.

I'm running a Cowon j3 with the Audio Technica ATH-m50 for my portable and I have a Lexicon u22 usb interface running into a pair of KRK rp8 g2 monitors. The interface connects my Audio Technica AT-lp120 turntable to my monitors as well.

Aimp3 is my media player of choice and I use WASAPI for that and ASIO4all when working in Ableton.

    Attached Files:

  8. KRK speakers, no headphones / IEMs?

  9. FLAC and other lossless formats are not really the defining format of digital audiophilia. 320kbps mp3 sounds very good and it's very difficult to find differences between it and a lossless file on anything but the most revealing of equipment. Also, CD prices are plummeting, which offers you the opportunity of ripping that audio in any format you wish (though it will still be 16bit 44.1khz). You can find just about anything you want on CD so not being able to find the music you would want to enjoy on lossless isn't really that debilitating as far as this hobby is concerned.

If you're interested in the nuances of your music or consider yourself a closet audiophile it would serve you much better to get a good pair of headphones and DAP rather than thinking you'll need lossless audio to consider yourself an audiophile. Besides, what's the point of lossless formats if your equipment can't even recreate the waveforms accurately? :smoke:

  10. What do you audiophiles think about the jump from 440hz to 432hz?

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLhegBf_TkI]‪440 Hz - 432 Hz‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

Actually been doing a little research on it, definitely very interesting.

  11. My headphones are photographed. They are the Audio Technica ATH-m50. I also have a pair of Sony MDR-v700s that don't get as much use as they should. :D

  12. ahh yeah sorry, the photos didn't pop up or something until i refreshed the forum later on.

    my bad ;)

  13. I had a pair of ultimate ears 700's they had dual drivers sound canceling, truly amazing headphones. The only downside is the dog ate them.. Does anyone have a good idea what I should get for around 75-100 that might compare, hell a boombox would sound bette then my Apple headphones so anythings an improvement.

Aspiring audiophile here. I don't really buy into all the flac stuff personally...maybe it sounds better over time but its just not convenient at all for me. I just rip all my music off the CDs I buy usually.
I would definitely be an audiophile if I had the money for it though. I have a pair of $30 Sennheiser headphones right now ([ame]http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-202-Supra-Aural-Headphones/dp/B000065BP9/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289931663&sr=1-1[/ame]), definitely not the best out there but it does its job very well for the price. Headphones DO make a huge difference, unless you listen to a lot of lo-fi kind of music I guess. Its pretty difficult to hear all the subtleties of well-produced music through iPod earbuds.
I love my music no matter what I'm listening to it through though.

  15. ^dude I have those headphones and I love em. The sound is top-notch.

  16. well if you have the CD in hand you can always rip it @ a higher quality than just standard MP3

  17. I got a pair of Sennheiser HD280Pro's. Soon to have Fostex PM1 MKII

  18. Man, I'm about to begin the adventure of archiving my vinyl albums in 96k/24b. I did one and it comes out to 4 gigs an album; Definitely going to need an external hdd.

  19. HOLY shit hahahahah thats freaking amazingly huge! your gonna need a petabyte drive by the time you're done

  20. haha yeah I was pretty amazed when I checked the file size. The files sound better than anything else I've got on the computer though. :D
