attic conversion

  1. I live in the deep, deep southern US. I want to convert an existing unfinished attic over my garage into a grow room. It is 20'x20' with a pitched roof. I have about 6 feet of headroom in the center beam and the floor has already been insulated and decked. I will need to insulate the roof/walls and cover them with sheetrock or something.

I will have to watch my budget very carefully because I want to grow to satisfy my own needs plus maybe a little extra to cover expenses of growing (electricity, and nursery needs). I have two years to get educated, get a plan and get the conversion done a little at a time.

Winter is no problem, but the summer scorches here. I will probably start my first real grow in the fall to get my feet wet with the mild winter that we have. Will I be able to effectilely cool a hot attic with insulation and vent fans only? The roof rafters are 2x6s. If I have to introduce a/c it will shoot up the costs involved and maybe not worth the effort. I may not be able to grow in the hot summer months of July, August and September.

Also how big of an electrical circut will a hydro grom room need? Two years seems like forever, but theres a lot of work and planning to do.
