Ask N.J. committee chairman to schedule medical marijuana bill for a vote

  1. More than a month ago, the New Jersey Senate voted 22-16 to pass S119, the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act. Gov. Jon Corzine (D) has said he will sign the bill, but to become law it must first pass the Assembly. A companion bill, A804, is currently awaiting action in the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee.
It is up to the chairman of the committee, Assemblyman Herb Conaway (D-Delran), to schedule the bill for a vote. Although the committee heard public testimony on the bill on May 22, 2008, Assemblyman Conaway has not indicated when he plans to schedule it for a vote.
Please contact Assemblyman Conaway's office now and urge him to schedule the medical marijuana bill for a vote. The call will only take a minute!
Most legislators' staff answer their phones during the session and log all of the messages. When talking to Assemblyman Conaway or his staff, please be courteous, positive, and brief. Identify yourself and mention that you are a New Jersey resident. Ask to speak with Assemblyman Conaway's legislative aide or chief of staff if he is unavailable. Please leave a brief message if you are calling after business hours.
The Drug Policy Alliance New Jersey is leading the lobbying effort to pass this medical marijuana legislation. Please help the effort now by calling Assemblyman Conaway's office. Thank you for supporting MPP and our allies in New Jersey.
    Sincerely,
