Has anyone thought about growing organic marijuana by connecting the pots to an aquarium with fish and basically watering the plants with the water with fish shit inside to get organic nutrients and then after the plant has finished "filtering" the water let it back in to the aquarium? (Just cycle the water threw 24/7)

I wouldn't cycle the water back into the aquarium. Pretty sure that would kill the fish. I've thought about using the dirty fish water for nutrients because they'd be high in nitrogen and I use RO water in my fish tanks and for my plants. I think the runoff of the plant should be thrown away tho because I'm pretty sure cycling it back into the aquarium would kill the fish

  3. I seriously doubt that.

  4. Are you talking hydroponic grow or soil?

  5. I don't see how it matters but let's assume it's soil for the sole purpose of it filtering the water better.

If you use soil, more then just the water you put in will come out. You're going to get other nutes and stuff coming out and pretty sure its not good for the fish. Tap water can kill fish and you think soil runoff water wont? Go buy a fish and try it out. Pour some of your runoff water into the tank and keep doing it. Good luck

  7. Lol that's why I'm wanting to hear some other peoples thoughts about this. I am thinking about flashing the soil before doing this, basically I am replicating something that happens naturally in nature so I don't see why the fish would die unless I'd use a lot of nutes on the plants.

You might have better luck using a hydroponics system and cycle the water that way. You can just set the root system directly into the tank but I don't think you'd be able to do anything but veg in the tank since you can't add nutes to switch to flowering but would be a good veg spot. Put an airstone in the bottom if there isn't one already. I have a couple tanks with live plants but I haven't tried weed yet

  9. dankdankmax what you are basically talking about is aquaponics. instead of having a regular res you will be using your aquarium as your res, and then recirculating the water through an r/o system and back into the aquarium. ive seen this sort of setup as a dwc setup and an ebb n flow system. from the research i have done on this type of growing it is a very sustainable way to not only have greens but edible fish (depending on the size of your aquarium and species of fish)

  10. Dude I don't have an idea of what your talking about . Adding flowering nutes is optional you know.....

I don't know about hydro but I consider flowering nutes a must for soil grows. A plant needs more PK than N for flowering.

  12. flowering nutrients are a must for any flowering plant no matter the growing medium. like i stated, i havent seen this style of growing done in soil but it will work in theory with something like a wick system. you will need to grow with organic nutrients as the chemicals will probably kill the fish.

It seems like even some of the organics would kill the fish too. You'd also need a good sized aquarium so that the levels don't get too out of wack. The Ph would have to be closely monitored. If you had a 50gallon tank and only cycled small amounts for a plant so that the concentration levels are diluted. I wonder if you could put the water back into the tank by adding it into the filter and have the water be filtered at least before putting it back. I'm really interested now.... and I have like 5 fish tanks..... hmmmmmm :)

  14. depending on what you used for nutrients then yes it could kill the fish. you would need to keep fish that could handle the ph range that you need in a hydro setup, tilapia have been shown to be a very hearty fish to use in aquaponics.

  15. I'm thinking about just trying out some fish water to water my vegging plants with. I'd test the Ph and everything first to make sure it is safe and not cycle it back into the fish tank. Just replace with RO water.
