I actually like the Greenhouse coffeeshop - cool budtender and that.. I just think Arjan's a major douche.

arjan is responsible for creating original strains like white widow and nevilles haze and tons of others and has absolutely dominated the cannabis cup for over a decade man. as far as genetics go you cant go wrong with greenhouse especially if you want to be sure you are growing the real white rhino and everything. oh and the prices of their feminized seeds are now very affordable

Dude, that shit is judged by a buncha people who mix weed with tobacco... 'nuff said on that one.

And IMO, their White Widow was terribly disappointing... the taste was mediocre at best, potency was far below standard and yield was absolute SHIT on my Greenhouse White Widow. I'm sure the fact that they spend tens of thousands of dollars for ads in High Times every month has nothing to do with how many of that magazine's 'Cannabis Cups' they've won.

Give me a strain that won the (relatively unknown) California Cup, or the B.C. Harvest Cup. You know, an event judged by real North American smokers, with stock from companies that aren't in High Times' pocket.

FUCK the Cannabis Cup, and fuck High Times. They have been a less-than-worthless magazine for years. This is the same magazine that recently came out promoting the fuckin' Aerogarden for growing cannabis... and we wonder why the newbies here at grasscity don't have a clue...

Don't really have a prob w/ him..He's taken the cofee shops to another lvl IMO....they're more like night clubs now....... at least he's spending some money on R&D.. sending scouts out to find better landraces to be developed in Europe... he has the wherewithal to do it, so it's good that GH is.

watch the strain hunter vid on ytube...that's what all banks need to be doing to give back to their core constituency.

Not everyone wants the same lineage recrossed over and over again and called a "new strain"

Just checked that video out - and I have to admit, that was pretty awesome. That's taking it back to the old school right there. FWIW I never had a problem with this Arjan guy... I don't know him, or anything about him. if anything, I'm mad at High Times for telling me - month after month after year after year - about how these strains are "the best in the world". And I'm mad I believed them.

From my experience, their White Widow should go for about $35 / 10 pack. Average weed at best IMO... so Green House is gonna stay on my shitlist until I sample something from them that absolutely knocks my socks off.

 

W/out a doubt all the cannabis cups, awards, articles etc are heavily political in terms of who and what names are thrown around. IMO Those coffee shops are big money I presume.. so making news is critical.

The way I see it, any bank that brings you straight landraces or new strains w/ new genes has a good breeder behind it w/ some decent logic. lol

How many WW's did you grow out bro ...all were mediocre? Because that's THE WW source, the real widows.

 

Got 10 beans, 4 never popped... after males, and getting rid of one that wasn't doing so well, we ended up with 2 females, flowered the smaller one out and kept the bigger one for a mom.

Here's the thing that got me about it... the first time I smoked the shit, I was floored... thought I'd found the holy grail of bud... and that was the last time I had anything positive to say about it. After a few days of smoking it I was completely tired of it.

We (a freind and I) kept growing this shit out for several cycles, trying to make sure we werent ruining the weed somehow... We'd let it flower longer, cure it longer, you name it... Hell, we JUST now got rid of it about a month and a half ago.

We noticed most friends we gave it to would have the same reaction... They all loved it at first, but after the 2nd or 3rd time they had some nobody ever asked for it anymore. I always kept it, just because it was such a nice looking plant and so resinous... and of course, it beat smoking shwag... but the flavor was too mild - almost non existant... the high didn't last very long, and it wasn't really anything special. To top it off, yields were wack... getting more than one ounce per plant was a serious challenge for me growing in dirt. My buddy in hydro also complained constantly about the yields, and wasn't getting much more than I was. After my first HGS harvest, I couldn't find any reason to keep it.

I started noticing my jars of WW stayed packed away until I ran out of everything else... and even when I had to smoke the WW, I was buying a lot of weed so I didn't have to smoke it exclusively.

I can smoke my strains - Hindu Kush, Mikado - every day and never get tired of them. I can think of several other strains I could smoke everyday and never get tired of.. OG Kush comes to mind. When I don't have Mikado or Hindu Kush, I'm basically miserable - and no matter what else I find, to me it never seems to be as good. I figure for the money we paid for that fuckin WW, I should love it more than the $50 strains I own - since that's not the case, I kinda feel cheated.

 

Is the HGS white widow Arjans? They don't say so anywhere on their site and the plant looks different from everything I've ever seen on the two. Kind of like how Nirvana has a white widow too.

But yea I have nothing personally against this dude but DAMN his myspace is the biggest deusche head up his ass thing i have ever seen!!

 

who knows where he acquired the WW before he developed his style of WW...but GH has the OG WW mom and pop. Kinda like GH's Haze lines.. his came from someone else's Haze somewhere down the line.
