Hey guys, I'm thinking about growing for my first time. I was thinking of growing in my attic but I live in Arizona. The problem is the heat, how cool doe the plants have to be? The norm highs in temps are around 108 and lows are 80's. If it is possible, what would I need to do to make it possible in my severe conditions.
ideal is 80 ....over 85 is too hot ......u might was to use the crawl space instead....or buy an a/c and duct work it to the attic....could also buy a booster fan for an attic vent to push the hot air outside...??? just suggestions??
So you are saying that if I make an insulated area in my attic with a booster fan, my plants will survive. Remember, it probably get like 115-120 during a large part of the year.
If you can revert one little air conditioner vent to the part that you want to grow in… If it is your house get a port air conditioner. That will keep your grow cool up there. Arizona is hot so its going to be hard to keep that upper level cool.
Az regularly has something like 100 days over 100 degrees each year and several that cross 115. I can only imagine that the attic (unless it's a finished attic w/ insulation, a/c, etc) will easily cross 140. Your best bet is to set aside a small closet or something to grow indoors where the A/C will already be running. If you don't have a spare closet/room to devote, get one of those grow tents. I don't think a portable A/C will be very effective in your attic.
While I live in Az, I'm certainly not the most experienced at growing. I just can't imagine anything growing in my attic during the summer months. It gets so hot where I live that my neighborhood resembles a ghost town because everyone stays indoors. I guess if you were able to seal off a section of the attic and properly insulate and air condition it so it was just like any other room in your house it'd be possible. My attic would take a lot of work to get it to that point. I've decided to just get a grow tent and throw it in the closet of a spare room.
