Arizer Solo Vs Davinci Descent?

Discussion in 'Cannabis Vaporizers & Vaping Tips' started by Up'In'Smoke, Aug 18, 2014.

  1. Alright tokers I just moved to college and I want a sturdy, tasty, and discrete and portable vaporizer. I have my eyes on the davinci ascent but I hear it has some defects so I can't decide between that and an arizer solo. Tips and suggestions and reviews on personal experience welcome!
    Cheers
    Happy vaping
Ps I've vaped before but I didn't bring any with me nor do I plan to.

  2. I used to have the solo, and I felt as if the pull was a bit restricted. I had to lift up the glass mouth tube a bit to get a decent pull.

Though I think they've updated their design since, so it may be better now.

  3. If you're going to be using it when you're out and about, the form factor of the Ascent makes it much more stealthy.     It's kinda flat so it's easy to put it in and take out of your pocket unlike the Solo which kinda has the form factor of a can of Red Bull.

Also, with the Ascent, everything is self contained versus the Solo which has separate glass stems that you gotta carry around.

    Both very good vapes though.

  4. Both are good vapes as Iwien stated but I feel like the Solo is a nice portable to have around the house but it is definitely not a vape to get if your looking for using it out in public. I take my pax with me when I'm on the go and keep my solo for at home use.

  5. Thanks for the great replies does anyone have any experience with the davinci ascent?

  6. Also, If I'm not mistaken the Ascent, like the Pax are conduction style vapes. Which means it uses a direct heat source, furthermore, this causes your buds to be cooking constantly, even in between hits. Some don't find this as an issue, but I have noticed that this also causes a lot more odor, not from the vapor you exhaling, but from the vape itself. The Solo, on the other hand is a convection style vape, which means indirect heating source. The buds are heated from inhaling the hot air inside of the chamber and not the chamber walls itself. The Solo will be a little more discreet in terms of smell but less discreet in terms of portability, due to the glass stems.

Good Luck making a decision, and happy vaping!

I do as well as a few others of the regulars here.

  8. I have an Ascent, have tried the Solo.

Taste-wise, pretty close contest but I prefer my Ascent. The Solo pulls bigger clouds and is a bit more efficient than the Ascent. Neither piece is particularly stealthy smell-wise (frankly they both reak but like any vape the smell dissipates quickly), but the Ascent is fantastic for on the go because it fits in your pocket and is all contained within itself, the Solo is more like a cordless home vape.

If it was my only vape I'd grab the Solo for straight efficiency, but on the go use is AT ALL important to you get the Ascent, the difference in efficiency isn't that drastic.

My vote would go to the Ascent, it's a good entry-level vape and if you decide to make the full transfer to vaping later on it's easier to justify getting a heavy at-home vape (I'm ordering my VXL EVO next week :D, heavy hitter for at home and the Ascent for when I'm out and about and just wanna catch a buzz instead of putting myself on the couch for 3 hours)

  9. I owned and heavily used a solo for a year and a half and while it is a convection based vape there is also some conduction going on with the bud that touches the bottom of the chamber. This causes the majority of the smell that comes from this vape. I could always tell my solo was ready for use by the smell it produced while it was loaded and heating up without me hitting it. For a more discrete vape that doesn't produce nearly as much odor I would look towards either the mflb or the firewood. The solo did produce some nice clouds though and the first 2-3 hits were rather tasty, but the taste quickly diminished after that.

The solo is constantly cooking your herbs as well. The solo is a hybrid convection/conduction. Calling the solo a convection style vaporizer is very disingenuous.

edit- To address the OP. I own both vaporizers but the ascent helped me phase out the solo. The taste is better than the solo throughout the bowl in my opinion and they hit about equally hard to me. Only reason I see to pick a solo over the ascent is the price point.

Sorry, didn't realize how misunderstood I was. Don't take my advice then. I'll I know is that I have the solo and I enjoy vaping with it.

  12. No harm no foul friend. You were right in the sense that they do heat the herb in different manners. The solo is labeled and talked about as a convection vaporizer, but there is also quite a bit of conduction going on which does give off a noticeable smell. Like I said I had my solo for some time and I did enjoy it. The only factor that really turned me off to it was how rapidly the taste diminished.

  13. I have both and I prefer my solo over the Ascent any day, not only because of price, but because the solo is super easy to clean and you really don't use that much material and can get a great session out of it. Its just solid, IMO. If you won't really be walking around town with it, the Solo is a good option.

However, be careful with the glass stems. Both vaporizers have them but just be mindful when removing the Solo's stem to change the bowl and clean- that goes for the ascent as well, but you'll probably be handling the Solo's full stem more often. Both come with a second stem anyways, but keep that in mind!

  14. @[member="vapelifegirl"] I'm pretty sure if you were walking through a town with the solo, either it would be thought to be a drink of some sorts with a straw, or a weed device. The ascent is commonly mistaken for 'an old Nokia cellphone' or a portable razor, or a bluetooth speaker. Personally, I only use the Solo at home, or on longer drives. You make a good point with maintenance though, the ascent definitely requires more attention.

  15. Honestly though if you have the balls to walk around with any vape through a town I dont know how you sit down because you probably have the largest testicles known to man. Maybe I just get way to sketched out from some prior arrests though.

  16. @[member="POTatato Head"] I've definitely walked through certain local cities smokin J's, but not vapes.
