Are these Aphids?

  1. Hello all. I am a noob and I have a few questions about my seedlings. I started them in peat pellets and they look great. I planted them in potting soil which is where my problem started. I used a thin layer of older potting soil that I had and then on top of that I used a new bag of Miracle Grow Organic. I realize now that I shouldn't have used the old stuff at all.

After transplanting I noticed some little yellow bugs in the soil which I assume are aphids probably brought in with the old soil. However, the bugs do not seem to be feeding on my seedlings they are just running around the soil. Are these aphids?

I have done my research but didn't find anything about aphids NOT eating plants. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Also I was wondering since they only have one set of real leaves is it possible to take them out of the soil and put them in a DWC?

  2. Aphids do not move fast. If they are black and running over the soil surface they could be fungus gnats. It is their grubs that do big damage under the surface.

These are light brown/yellow and they move pretty fast, any other ideas as to what they could be?

I watched them crawl around for awhile today and they definately have antennas. They crawl around pretty rapid, stop every now and then and flick their antennas around in the air. They are still in the soil and not on the plants. I am puzzled, any help is appreciated.
