Are there organic methods of hydroponics?

  1. These pictures were taken at my local Lowe's, the organic miracle gro granule fertilizer and the other is phosphorus rich bone meal. Traditionally, hydroponics is basically growing plants with liquid chemical fertilizers that contain the nutrients necessary for growing plants. I have a hypothesis, why can't I mix either one of the products in water so the nutrients can be mixed into liquid form, and let it sit for a couple of days, and use that nutrient rich water to use as my hydroponic grow medium? Rather than using chemical nutrients. 20190417_190526_HDR.jpg 20190421_172630.jpg

  2. That won't work. It will be a bacterial soup and kill your plants.

  3. Doesn’t sound good that chief,
I’m experimenting with organic nutrients in rock wool, they are going in flower at the end of the week. So far so good.

  4. What organic nutrients are you using for hydroponics?

  5. I’m thinking of trying SIP containers with an organic potting mix. Wondering about this too.

  6. Hydrotops soil range, only problem is the particles in the nutrients make it unsuitable for a pump fed system, so it’s hand watering only

  7. In a SIP or DWC there would just be air pumps, would this be a problem?

  8. The nutrients contain small particles which settle at the bottom of the containers, if the water is agitated (stirred up) enough by the air stones, to keep the particles suspended totally, I suppose that might work,
    You need experiment.

  9. SIP containers???

  10. You paint your toenails?

  11. Sometimes........ bout you ???

  12. Talking about the OP in his pic.

  13. I know, just playing

  14. What if you were to replace the water with a well cleaned compost tea so that no particulates are left (i use a tied off coffee filter as a giant tea bag). brew it for 48 hours then run it through your hydroponic system instead of water. When you change out the water every few days, replace it with fresh brewed tea. Arent hydroponic systems/reservoirs aerated with air stones? If so the tea would always be aerobic.

i kinda want to try it now lol.

  15. It uses a potting mix with a res at the bottom. Made from 5 gal buckets or totes like dwc. The fertilizer is mixed into the media. It’s a cool system.

  17. I’ve got some going with pepper and melons, doing ok so far.

  19. Compost tea alone won't work. Not enough sustenance. I've been using manure and compost tea, to speed up the breakdown process. It's working well but I already have so many improvements I'm going to make. I haven't tried store bought organic nutes, but you would absolutely need to add compost tea in order to break down what your plants need.

  20. Sorry didn’t mean to drag ya back to the city!! lol
