I would love to hear what you guys think. Maybe overrated with musical talent but underrated by there influence on music ever since they got big. Let me hear it. Me and friends and family have this debate all the time.
No. Not over rated. Like many things "You had to be there" <-- was there. Did that. Can name that song in 2 notes. <-- has lots of Elvis in rotation. Why ?? because nobody plays much of him any longer. Stuff a lot older then that in my play list. BNW
No, not imo. I had a co-worker who thought they were the greatest and accused a lot of later bands of copying them, though.
Not if you were 14yr. old and watching The Ed Sullivan Show, in black and white, in 1964. Come to think of it, they had black and white water fountains as well.
I think overrated is pretty subjective. In my opinion no, they aren’t overrated they have quite a few classics that resonate with me.
Young people today have no idea the impact they had on American and music. the girls lost they're fucking minds. John Lennon once said it was like being in prison. I can't go to the store or anything. Let's see you have money falling out of your ass and It's raining pussy on you. You want to trade places.
so did the Backstreet Boys, that doesnt mean its good music. Paul is a great song writer, and a decent musician. Ringo might be one of the worst famous drummers of all time.
I wouldn't say overrated, but I would say a lot of bands are underrated to the same amount that the Beatles are considered overrated. My favorite group of all time is " The Sensational Alex Harvey Band ". But even back then you hardly heard SAHB on the radio. Had more of an impact than the Beatles did, at least to everyone that I knew back then.
Bands, like the Beatles, who have stood the test of time are not over rated. Maybe under appreciated. Last year the movie "Yesterday" was all about the Beatles music. When they're making movies about your music 50 years later you're not over rated. It was a very entertaining movie by the way.
As musicians, I rate them a notch above the Monkees. But for 2 decades they led the melody for hippies and psychedelics, from falling in love to heart break, from humorous ballads to drugs, and off to ponder deep mysteries of eastern religions. Every album was like a new era, bringing something different, like a new experience, to the table. In a way that I can't explain, I think they were somehow ahead of their time. But as professional musicians, they were run of the mill mediocre. The Beatles were always there, but I grew up more of a Rolling Stones/ Led Zeppelin fan. (but nothing exclusive)
I pretty much agree^ . I was never into their earliest stuff. but they did the stuff only they could have done
