Are Seedlings Too Hot?

  1. There are some seedlings in styrofoam cups with Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil, they're under T-5 fluorescent lights right now and upon checking up them, the soil in the cups felt warm to the touch. Also one seedling is growing sideways a bit.

Are they ok? Lights are about 6 in above the seedlings. Also, there are plastic bags over the cups to keep humidity in, how long are these needed?

  2. You don't need more than 40% humidity. You can bring the t5 down to about 3". I think your soil is warm because of your humidity bags you got over the cups. I suggest you remove those bags.

  3. k, thanks, bags were just removed. the lights are about 4.5 inches away from the tops of the seedlings. might put a book under their tray to prop them up instead of lowering the lights.

as for the slanted over one, will it likely correct itself and grow straight? also the light wont dry them out will it?

  4. Is the slanted plant directly under the light, or is it at the edge of the light? It's just growing towards the closest bulb in your t5 fixture. So if the closest bulb to it is at an angle, the plant will grow towards that bulb at an angle. Make sure it's directly under the bulb closest to it.

  5. its kinda difficult to get them all under the lights directly but will try. if they grow slanted, what will happen? will they eventually straighten as they get older and develop more leaves to catch the light?
