Are "Pot Brownies" still a thing?

Discussion in 'Cannabis & Weed Edibles: Cooking & Recipes' started by DeadDan, Oct 26, 2022.

  1. I first used cannabis back in the mid '70's. At that time of course there was no such thing as pre-made gummies, edibles, etc. People would add raw weed to things like brownie batter, bake & eat, though I never actually tried that. After about a 40 year hiatus, I began using pot again, when it was 1st legalized for "medical" use, here in WA, where it is now also legal for "recreational" use. The difference between today's cannabis & the junk that I got back in Ohio in the 70's is stunning, and it's also WAY cheaper. When I quit in the 70's, an ounce was $40, equal to around $203 in today's money, plus about half that weight was seeds! I would like to limit smoking as much as possible, looking at vaping (thanks for the replies on my thread on vaping devices), but I'd also like to try eating it. Lots of edibles now available, but much more expensive than raw flowers, on a dose by dose basis. So, I'm wondering about making my own "edibles" out of flowers. Back in the day, the idea was you had to "bake it" to get the THC to be absorbable orally. Is that true? If anyone has any suggestions about the most effective and safe way to orally ingest flowers, please pass them on.

    THANKS!

  5. I’ve got a friend who makes THC and chocolate chip cookies,,, one is plenty for me… I have been given no small amount of flower, to after 50 odd years away from smoking anything, I’m hesitant to resume smoking,,, even cannabis…

As you mention @DeadDan, vaping is more likely to be in my future,,, if that future holds anything beyond cookies, brownie, and/or gummies…

  7. Yes, folks still make brownies, but we have made improvements on how it's done. Most folks like to make canna-butter or canna-oil to use in their brownies. And yes, decarbing (pre-heating the cannabis in the oven) is needed to change the "no high" THCA into good old THC to improve the potency!

I also like to replace some of the flour with Canna-flour- well blenderized, decarbed buds. I found I could replace about 1/4 of the flour with canna-flour and still have a decent product.

And "from scratch" brownies are usually way better than boxed Betty Crocker's! So here's Martha Stewart's recipe-

  8. For baking make your "Canna Oil" first then blend it with the cooking oil called for in your baked good. Add the dry parts and cook normally.

Many of us here use BadKat's base recipe as it is easy to make and figure the dose from.

    Decarb Cannabis first 240 F for 40minutes.
This is pea sized nugs on a cookie sheet in the Oven.

If using buds grind to flour grade dust next.

5 grams Decarbed Kief-Hash or Powdered Buds or Concentrates.
1 tablespoon Coconut oil (Fastest) Any cooking oil works.
1/2 teaspoon Lecithin (optional strength enhancer)
    Heat 220 F for 20 minutes
    Freeze (optional)
Heat 220 F for 20 minutes. Not needed if you didn't freeze.

  10. I make butter and then either brownies or cookies with the butter. i usually end up making cookies because they’re easier and faster to make.
I get a pouch of Betty Crocker chocolate chip cookies, add 1 egg and 1 stick of my butter and I get 12 cookies with pretty consistent results.

  12. Brownies are my go to edible .
Living in a state where all forms of marrijuanna is currently illegal i started making a marrijuanna based coconut oil years ago and started using the oil in store bought brownie mix and a really nice chocolate fudge recipe !
I usually ramp up production during the holiday season because I routinely bake dozens of brownies and make pounds of chocolate fudge that I give away to my closest friends and family
    for Christmas gifts .
Over the years I've incorporated that oil into a number of things that i use to cook.
