Are percs worth it

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by yodatheboda, Jul 11, 2017.

  1. So I’m buying a new bong and I’ve been looking at some rigs around 18” tall with double honeycomb percs and a tree perc above it. I’ve heard the honeycomb and tree percs are really nice and give a smooth hit. I wanted to know if the tree perc will break easily and also if the percs are worth it?

  2. Percs are good and bad.

    The good: smoother, stronger hit

    The bad: resin lips

I'm no scientist but I've concluded through my years of research you get resin lips from bongs that contain percs. Why? Because I think the smoke is being condensed.

If you don't mind wiping your lips every hit and the occasional tar taste in your mouth and you want a bigger powerful yes smoother hit .

  3. I like to think of myself as somewhat of a bong expert, because it's basically all I've smoked out of for the past 15 years. However, everyone will have different experiences and preferences. Here are mine.

    Cons:
    • I have always felt that I get higher from bongs WITHOUT percs. Possible explanation? the more times the smoke passes through water, the more cannabinoids are filtered out. Whether or not this is true, I'm not sure. BUT, I know when I'm trying to conserve I reach for a smaller bong with no perc.
    • Cleaning sucks with any more than 1 perc. 1 makes it a pain, but definitely doable. 2 or more makes cleaning hell. If you are the type that lets your bong get filthy, maybe this doesn't matter to you, but for someone like me who prefers at least SOMEWHAT clean glass, I'd never buy a bong with more than 1 perc
    • Drag. Bongs with percs, especially with more than 1, can have a tendency to be hard to pull through. For the man with iron lungs, no big deal. But for a newer smoker, people with decreased lung capacity, or small people with small lungs, a huge bong with percs can be a nightmare. My mom won't even touch my perc bongs.
    Pros:
    • Smoother hits. There is no doubt. Percs make for smooth hits.
    • Cool factor. If you pull out a big bong with a couple percs and a regular bong with none, most stoners are going to want to use the perc'd bong because let's face it, they look pretty awesome.
I personally own a few of each type, and constantly mix it up depending on what I'm looking for. If I'm trying to get ripped on a small amount, no perc for me. But if I was a chill, easy on the lungs smoke, and don't really care about efficiency, I'll go for the big boy.

My suggestion: If you want a perc, get a single perc to help with airflow. Get an ashcatcher to provide the 3rd water pass, keep your bong cleaner, and they generally have better airflow than a second perc. Otherwise, spend the extra money that a perc'd bong would cost and spend it on an even nicer bong without percs. Either way, bongs are the way to go!

  4. Percs for sure.

Keep some high % ISO around and clean your bong out with it once a week or every time you smoke. It will keep it clean with little effort.

  5. I don't think so, but I have a large lung capacity and don't really feel harshness from any smoke any more. To me all they do is look cool, and I wouldn't mind having one, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find them or spend extra money for them. I'd rather have an ash catcher and ice

  6. once upon a college night, I had a bong with 2 percs and it was a royal PITA to clean. it would take a good hour of vigorous shaking with iso/epsom solution to get it crystal clear. oh and the percs broke after like 1 month. my roomie set it down just a bit too hard and they both cracked right off, but could not be removed. they just kinda chilled in the middle of the bong for about a year before I got rid of it.
