Are CFL's good enough for Veg?

  1. I will be running a 600w HPS for flowering, but wanted to reduce the electricity for the 24/7 period.
Can I get enough growth using CFLs, Or should I use HID for veg?
I am kinda new, but am wanting to do it right.
    Any feedback is appreciated.
My anticipated grow will be with 4-6 plants in a scrog box type room, with recuirculating bubbler buckets.

  2. You can use CFLs. I use 250w of 6400k CFL and it works well. You can also veg under 18/6 if you're worried about electricity bills. :)

  3. 4-6 plants will be fine under a 200-300 watts of CFLs for at least the first month.

  4. Thanks for the quick replies. My local hydro store has a 600w HPS setup with reflector and digital ballast for $350. So CFLs will get me started, giving me ~4 weeks to come up with the cash for them.
    Thanks again!

  5. Thats what I did and worked out very well. CFLs are cheap to buy.
