Well? I know many of you are overflowing with excitmeant to say yes. Give its a good few moments of thought though. I have a very interesting perspective, because I have been liing in the US all my life, went to a year of college there, and now I am in England doing a year of college. So I defenitally have a personal opinion on this, and some first hand knowledge to back it up. So, tell me what you think, and MAKE SURE TO SAY WHY. I hear the ignorant American thing all day long on these boards, tell us why we know less and they know more, or vice versa.
There's going to be ignorant people where ever you go, but not all Americans are ignorant, just as not all British people are ignorant, works both ways.
I've never been outside the US so maybe my opinion is biased, but I would say no we are not more ignorant than other nationalities. You're going to find a large amount of ignorant people no matter where you go. If anything, we're more spoiled and dependent on material culture than most other countries, maybe even arrogant, but not ignorant.
in a word, yes. but there are plenty of ignorant people out there, its not limited to america. EDIT: since your in the UK right now, i dont have to really explain myself because you know what i mean. i was born in the UK and moved to the US as a citzen, so i have seen both sides, and they are both as bad eachother.
There are alot of severly uneducated people in this country. That is a defintite. But there are some fucking morons in other countries. Alot of countries in this world do not even attempt to educate their entire populace. Ever since our government, began relegating education, our IQ and letericy rate has gone down.
no child left behind slows down the pack more than it helps catch individuals up to speed. i think thats america for you though. public school at least. EDIT of course there are smart ones in every group, but we seem to have high minimum standards along with low max expectations. meh... maybe that will help nurture the middle class back to healthier numbers than at present
America just gets man-handled by the media more so than any other country. And a lot of its citizens can't distinguish propaganda from truth. Not saying that doesn't happen elsewhere like Canada, Britain, etc.. It's just that America gets hit by its media the most.
Of course it does. I really like everyone logic with this scenerio. I was hoping somone would jump in, and say how stupid all Americans are. But maybe me requiring them to explain why, stopped those posts. I just read 3 posts in a row where somone puts a little jab in there about "because Americans are so ignorant," or whatever, almost word for word. Well anyways, I share the same opinion as most of you all. Its everywhere, and it really bugs me when people say that one place is worse than another, and I especially hear it a lot with regards to the States, just because everyone likes to pick at them, often without any reason.
Quoted from: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,2210433,00.html?gusrc=rss&feed=networkfront So no, it's not just Americans.
I really think it depends on what you mean by the word "ignorant" people in 3rd world countries would be far more "ignorant" than Americans. IMO Americans are far more aware of what goes on in the world than other countries.. sometimes too much for our own good.. seems like Americans are dying to get involved in other peoples' problems.
Yes and no. In experience, most of us are ignorant. But we KNOW whats going on in other countries, granted we could be more aware, but were not. Thats America.
Ahahahaha. Bullshit. Wikipedia and Fox News doesn't mean jack for knowledge of other country's problems. However, North Americans (Us Canadians and you Americans) like to think we are kings of knowledge.
Anyone who is alive is ignorant, by definition. The question would be better served if it were more thought out and more specific to one type of ignorance....then your question could be answered in some form or another. However, with the question as is....the answer is no. We are all ignorant.
I'm generalizing North American methods of 'knowledge'. I'm not insulting him with my twisted version of his post. I'm making my own statement with it.
Bullshit.. Theres only one type of ignorance. Its like a big umbrella. You re ignorant because you choose not to be aware.
That just shows how ignorant you are of the rest of the world. There are tons of 3rd world countries where all the people know is civil war and what happens within their communities/ tribes. Im in no way suggesting American's/ N. Americans to be superiors.. Not even to Europeons or Asians. Just pointing out that there are MANY MANY people in the world that dont have access to the outside world. And dont try to insult me and tell me where I get my news from. You dont know shit about me. You seem like some punk bitch trying to manipulate my words to make me appear foolish. EDIT- I probably shouldnt have called you a punk bitch, but I really dont like having my words twisted and attacked all by the same person.. its like you twisted my words to say whatever you wanted to attack.. then made your remarks.
