Appropriate soil container size -- sharing ok?

  1. Someone is planning 250w MH veg/HPS or MH+HPS flower in a 16x36x65 cab with 6" Vortex (believe that's 440cfm). Figuring at least 40" of usable height, shared with a cool-tubed bulb (if both bulbs are in use during veg, second will likely not be tubed) with a 6" carbonaire filter in front of it, very low slide-out shelf underneath, (just a shelf on 2x4 rails for convenience) fixed shelf for ballast and Vortex up top.

Someone has about 4sqft of floor area, so they are thinking of maturing 4 plants in the end. Because they've only got 16" max depth by 32" max width to work with, it's hard to fit 4 soil containers in that space and still maximize soil volume. Could they end up transplanting the four plants to a single large container in the end, to maximize soil volume? Obviously this increases risk of infection or parasites spreading further/faster and taking out more or all plants; how big a risk is that? Is there another viable way to maximize soil volume?

(Someone is not willing to go hydro yet. Someone is picking up where they left off years ago, and needs to refresh their memory in plain old organics first. Though, someone might consider aero.)

Someone thanks you in advance for any input.
