I've eaten my apple pipe before. The smoke only passed through the parts of the apple that I cut for the breathing hole, and the part where the weed burns sits on top of the apple (which never gets eaten anyway). So there wasn't any problem really.
It'll taste bad if you eat resin, but you're fine. The shit goes in your delicate lungs; it's definitely not going to do anything bad to your stomach.
