applause in church

Discussion in 'Religion, Beliefs and Spirituality' started by myrrhlynn, Aug 9, 2023.

  1. i've attended a number of church services... mostly to hear pipe organs. but it wasn't until recently that i've heard applause from the congregation after either a organ or combined choir performance. i don't really care one way or the other, but i find it unusual. comments?

  2. Applause sounds appropriate for special events or presentations but I haven't been to church in 60 years so you would know better than I.

  3. I don’t care either… There are few people I trust or respect less than church goers, and what ever they do behind closed doors ought to be kept there,,, away from humanity…

  4. What denomination were you in? You tend to see it more in the Evangelical movement.

  5. mostly protestant churches, but like i said i tend to seek out the most amazing pipe organs. the two i've run into that seem to favor applause have been Presbyterian. this is what i use to find them. Austin's are probably the best i've heard.

Well, within the protestants you have evangelicals and reformers/calvinists. Most protestants who have opinions on clapping are Baptist and Presbyterians and tend to Calvinists.

The current church I'm attending, I heard the pastor say he didn't think it was appropriate but people still do it.
