It's a french film and sounds a bit shit when you first hear about it, but it's pretty cool. I just watched it for the first time today and enjoyed it a lot, even if I did have to put subtitles on. Anyone else seen it? If not, I'd recommend it.
That has to be one of my favorite movies ever. I've watched it like a hundred times and studied the shit out of it. I actually mentioned it in many of speeches I've done to get people's attention. "How you fall doesn't matter, it's how you land." is one of my favorite quotes in cinema history. It's deep shit, if you really think about it. Anyway, the cinematography is pretty awesome too. They used a toy plane to get the scene where the dude starts doing his magic on the turntables, like a panoramic view of the city. Notice how it swings back and forth the shot. Also the immaculate Hitchcock/dolly zoom when they arrive in France. That's a really hard shot to get right. Man, I nearly shit my pants when I first saw it. Plus that shot is not also awesome alone, it was done there for a purpose. The firsst half of the movie is in stereo and when they enter France, it changes into mono. Kassovitz wanted to make the audience know there was a scence change and that the characters were uneazy/uncomfortable in that situation, it's not their environment. Hitchcock zoom + sound change = awesome Also, this movie has a lot of similarities with the movie Mean Streets by Martin Scorsese. Like camera work, dialogue, and characters. Also the opening with the characters name seen in writing/print is also a homage to that film. They also use their real names for their characters in the movie. I can go on and on about this movie because I just love it, but I digress. OH YEAH: I also wanted to say that another movie you should check out is City of Gods. It's pretty raw.
