    It seems to me that most of you here like the gangsta rap style but anyone like real hip hop with a message, a la The Roots, Common, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Immortal Technique, etc.?

    I think you got it backwards most people on this site love the people you mentioned.
    Personally I love The Roots, best band in late night

    Yea I listen to all those people you listed. I love the roots my fav song is The Seed..you should listen to a tribe called quest too. They are a good group too with sick beats.

    I like all that stuff plus some weezy and stuff. It all depends how you perceive all of it. Like I really like common/talib and all them, but lots of other rappers have some dirty beats that are enjoyable. I just dont take it seriously andd laugh at the lyrics, still like it though haha

    I personally love The Roots.
    The song they made with Erykah Badu (Live they played with Jill Scott)
    You Got Me is probably one of my favorites. The Roots are amasing.

    btw, i love underground hip hop for the same reason most people do, it doesnt just boast a 'gansta-er than though' feeling, i like songs with messages, but not just for the sake of it, like 'this is my song that has a message in it! for you bleeding hearts'. i like bands/groups/artists have have sincere things to say. thats why most of my heart belongs to punk. but i love shit like this too, especially the roots and immortal technique (although i prefer to read his lyrics than listen to his music, haha).

    the roots are fireeeeeeeeeee. black thought is one of the most slept on mc's of ALLL TIME

    the new song dear god 2.0 is amazing too. so much truth
