I bought a portable ro system. The problem is when i was trying to install i accidently connected 2 hoses wrong. The water intake and the clean water out got mixed. So when i turned it on no water came out. So the water pressure was on full blast going the wronge direction in the machine. Will this damage the membrane? Right now it is puting about 5 times as much waste water out as clean water. Pls help!
I assume you corrected the hose mix up? You should be fine. 5:1 is a pretty typical ratio for the smaller units under low pressure. A booster pump will increase pressure and efficiency, but may not be available for your unit. I have the Merlin Garden Pro with every optional accessory possible. It still does 4:1. RO is wasteful. Try to figure a system that will collect the waste water so you can use it for houseplants, or irrigating an outdoor garden.
If you really want a machine doing it then I guess this is something to look at: REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER FILTER MAXIMUS II 100GPD *RO/DI* - eBay (item 250768711324 end time Feb-05-11 11:54:30 PST) I dont know if that's similar to what you already have... Costly though.
Try to find a zero waste RO system, they are expensive but worth it Edit: or add this http://cgi.ebay.com/Watts-Premier-5...all_Kitchen_Appliances_US&hash=item3365267b33
