I've read from people on forums that activated carbon (as used for filtration in a smoking device):

    1)  Causes BLACK LUNG.

    2)  When wet, is toxic.

It seems to me that black lung is caused by being IN A COAL MINE and breathing that crap all day, every day, for decades.  Is a gram of active carbon in the airflow really going to have any impact at all on one's health?

What in the world makes it toxic when wet?  Someone mentioned methane hydrate, but I can't find any research on that.  And if it really released toxic gas when wet, would it be legal to buy at walmart?

SO, has anyone seen any actual research or evidence about potential harmful effects of active carbon?

  2. youdo know they use it for water/chemical/gas/air/filters all over the world, and even put it in capsule you swallow...
