anyone ever noticed?

  1. Just started reading about various plants and stuff and realized that alot of plants from the family Solanaceae are dangerous (jimson weed, atropa belladonna, and tobacco). Then I found out its because they all contain alkaloids. Alot of psychoactive chemicals are alkaloids but tropane alkaloids in particular are dangerous (like atropine, found in belladonna, and cocaine, from the coca plant) Sorry I'm kind of rambling here just found this interesting and just thought I'd share.

    I think I'll stick with the terpenoid THC, and leave those tropane alkaloids alone.:smoke:
     
  2. Well, you have to realize that coca is extremely safe compared to cocaine, and a lot of plants such as potatoes and tomatoes also have tropane alkaloids.
     
  3. Do they? I know they also belong in the family Solanaceae. So why don't we get high on salad and french fries? Concentration to low? Or because of different routes of administration?

    I had a conversation like this with my professor from college. The coca plant can be pretty dangerous from what i got out of the conversation. I might have just been really high

    Um.... chocolate? I'll assume you mean coca and then disagree with you for the most part about the dangers. In South America coca use is so widespread that a unit of measurement was created based on how long a person could walk in the time it took to use a quid. (cocada)

    It is a relatively safe plant on it's own, the real dangers come when it is made into cocaine.
