Anybody grind teeth during sleep?

Discussion in 'General' started by Gods Boner, May 16, 2011.

  1. I believe that smoking weed is affecting my teeth grinding haha. Does anybody else grind or clench their teeth in their sleep? I will have dreams that I am biting down really hard and think that all my teeth are cracking and in my dream I will pull them out. I went to my dentist and doctor and they both said it was from stress. Weed alleviates stress right, but it still happens. I took a 3 week t break and remember only doing this twice. I have to wear a mouth guard at night because I am scared I will break teeth. If you have a similar experience please tell me. Specifically the dreams.

Background: 19 year old male, school ended about 2 weeks ago, I work out 4 times a week, was prescribed zoloft 2 years ago after a bad car accident for anxiety. The only thing I really stress about is rent and that's not even bad. And work sometimes.

  2. Well I grind my teeth so bad at night that I chipped my 2 bottom front teeth multiple times and they're very jagged and uneven now.

  3. I clench them during the day I dunno if I do it at night, wish I had health insurance so I could go to a dentist....

  4. Do you think that marijuana has any effect on the severity of grinding? Like some nights I do it so hard my jaw hurts the next morning, and others I'll wake up with a headache.

  5. When you clench them during the day do you yawn then from the yawn go right into clenching sometimes?

  6. Hmm I dunno I only noticed I grind my teeth when there were pieces of my teeth missing, I don't get headaches and my jaw doesn't hurt when I wake up.

  7. I clench my teeth bad when I'm asleep. A few days a week I wake up with my jaw killing me :(

  8. Oh damn, haha that really sucks. Maybe wear a mouth guard I was told to by my doctor and it helps.

Same here. Like by your ears?

  9. I have to wear 2 retainers at night.

  10. Oh shit! Haha just be careful man. Teeth grinding leads to hairline cracks which leads to tooth loss. My smile is the only thing that makes people realize I'm not some dirty Pothead hahaha and I can't be losing my teeth.

  11. mmm...your jaw killing you? my gf says that same after a long night of kissing (the special kind of kissing;))

    @ the op
i have the same problem bro. if i dont go to bed after i smoked an hour or so earlier i usually catch myself clenching down my jaw right before i sleep. it pisses me off because no matter what i do i keep clenching down my jaw. i just cant do anything about it. the next morning i usually wake up with a headache. so for me i find that smoking a little bud helps me go to sleep without clenching my jaw. i usually wake up fine one those days. Or i might be to high to notice lol

  12. Yup. Part of it is bc I have a wisdom tooth coming in and grinding my teeth makes the pain feel better. I never clenched my teeth in my sleep until recently. I can't officially says it's from smoking but if it is then so be it, I'll be a grinder all my life :smoke:

  13. Zip it or I'll break your hip :p

  14. Hahaha hell yeah man I noticed the same thing, or if I take nyquil but fuck that. And we do the same thing. I'll be biting down in my sleep and I'll just think "I know I'm dreaming, I need to stop biting down before I crack my teeth," but I can never stop haha

Come to think of it I never really noticed my grinding until I got my wisdom teeth out this past January. I'm about to research if the two are related.

  15. Yeah I think that's what it is.

  16. I might just like that. :ey: lol

  17. Holy shit!!! I think I have temporomandibular joint disorder. I'm freaking out man. Look that shit up

  18. dude I grind my teeth when i sleep and have had a dream like yours before too.
i think your dentist is right when he says stress as thats what caused it for me, i suffer from strong feelings of anxiety most of the time im out and about. kinda like im on the very edge of having a panic attack. but since i started smoking weed about 8 months ago its helped soooo much. I still dont feel comfortable in crowded places. if i havent had a smoke in while i find it hard to fall asleep but once i finally do i start grinding again my jaw hurts when i wake up and usually have a headache too

  19. lol haha ive drank some nyquil too lol 2 cups!

as long as you dont end up like bling youll be good

  20. Yeah yeah yeah have you ever taken any anti anxiety medicine? I found it helped a lot more than weed, but then I decided to go au natural and get off it. I don't have social anxiety I was just sooo scared to ride in cars and had panic attacks while I was driving. But yeah the medical term for teeth grinding is called bruxism and thats what I was diagnosed with. I go back for an evaluation in June to see if my jaw bones are fucking up, and if any of my teeth are deteriorating haha.
