Any woodworkers here?

  1. Anybody else like woodworking? Let's see some of your projects!

I'm no expert but I've been getting much better. Currently working on making a new table for the porch. Used white pine and black walnut (not a fan of pine since it's such a soft wood but I have a stockpile of it that I need to use up).

Just need to finish the polyurethane coats then attach the legs.

  2. I wish!
I regret not taking woodshop in high school.
If my garage was empty, I would buy a table and some tools.

I'd love to make cutting boards.

  5. A little history
At one time I use to sell custom pool cues for years internationally .
I really got into exotic woods and started to collect rare and highly figure exotic woods to make pool cues .
At the same time one of my custom makers trained me how make pool cues in his shop.
I have sold allot of pool cues, and have made 20 or 30 custom pool cues .
I am or was a cue collector with one cue worth about 45K
I have hundreds of pictures of cues I bought and own and cues I have made.
I am a big time ebony wood hound .
Matched set of black and white ebony from Cambodia .
One play cue with matched Jump break cue
    [IMG]
    Said I was a hound .
    Big time
    [IMG]
Because I was selling pool cues online I had to learn how to photograph them

My X wife is into flutes
Some bought some and I made some for her

  11. Wow way cool.

I just recovered from major surgery, just getting back into doing stuff.
I have two custom Wood over aluminum tubing with glass inside the aluminum Pipe on the lathes .
I have 7 lathes total a mill and one DIY wooden CNC i made from a kit . and a bunch of saws .
One pipe is going to of my best inlays I have ever done.
I call it a buttery fly inlay .
The wood will have Burl wood Maple buttery fly like loops connected going around a highly figured peace of Cocobolo that i have been curing/drying in my spare bed room for 15 years .
I have been storing exotic woods for 15 to twenty years just so they don't warp.
Big time rule for wood workers or wood turners that do inlay work is WOOD MOVES ..
From the time wood is cut to the time I can work with it the wood will shrink up to 17 to 20% depending on what kind of wood it is and how its cured or dried .
The more figure the wood has , figure is wood grain . the more the wod wants to move and that is the wood grain or figure that makes the wood so beautiful.

Looks like you do some cool stuff brother.

  12. Thanks
I also had to recover from surgery at my knees and it took me long time to stand up again.
My damn height don’t make it simpler.
So I know where you come from.
This is my first project too after surgery.
I need it to push me to go and forget the pain.
Only a good project and love will do.

keep on making that incredible stuff.
And post it cause it’s great. Thanks.

  13. Too stoned
Screwed description up the the pipes have issues downloading pics from phone to Lap top .

First pipe was made 6 or 7 years ago LOL I horsed the wood and it shrank allot.
When I make pipe it's all like stacking washers and spacers over 1/2 aluminum tubing , then normally I install 10mm glass tubing in the the aluminum tubing .
The aluminum tubing holds my pipes together .

One pipe I am making is getting shipped to Mexico, customer is Mexican and the pipe will be made from Mexican Cocobolo with red neutral and green dyed sycamore ,030 veneer butterfly style inlays in the Mexican flag colors .

The pipe is basic Cocobolo stem with the butterfly inlays with a crown style done maple burl wood on each end of the pipe with the bowl section made out of maple burl wood.
Pipe will be 22 inches long and will stay upright when sat a flat surface .
It will also be a self balancing wooden peace pipe, the mouth piece shouldn't touch the t
It will have a custom made brass bowl that make on one of my lathes .

I also use/own several micro lathes DC motors lots of torque with a 1.350 spindle bore which is big for a 4 inch chuck .
Special lathes made originally for pool cue's repairs. but pretty much only make pipes now .
    This spindle has a indexer.
Indexer look at the role of barley drilled holes on the left side of the spindle is a indexer
with the locking screw in the shadow . sorry for the low light photo
    [IMG]
I put two motors on one bed for extra torque for deep hole boring with a big bit.
I don't do that anymore, pretty much everything is now done with live cutters.
But its a better photo of the spindles .
And you can see the indexer.
The micro lathes you can slide the spindle and motor up and down the lathe bed and put a steady rest behind the spindle/motor.
When I put on a clear finish on pool cues/pipes my lathe will rotate for two to three weeks solid'

  15. Here is a good picture of a indexer on the micro lathe its 24 position
    [IMG]

    This piece is 12 slots.
Will kind of look like rail road track inlays going around the pipe or pool cue . pocket chalker.
I glue in veneers the same thickness ass the saw blade.
Trim and cut into washer spacer. In my world its called rings.
then inlay or assemble on 1/2 aluminum tubing .

  19. It's really just a stand. The vaporiser comes with a titanium heat post that can be screwed into your desk.
