Any way to fix a split bong?

Discussion in 'Experienced Cannabis Enthusiasts' started by Chrisco88, Dec 26, 2006.

  1. Merry Christmas indeed right... I hope someone can give me some advice on this sad Xmas Eve story...
Me and my roomie decided we were in need of a bowl before going home for Xmas Eve, so i grabbed the bong (only 2 weeks old) and set off to fill it with water in the kitchen. As soon as I picked it up off the counter, the stem came off in my hands... and there I was... holding half our new bong... the other half still on the counter.
To put it in perspective, it was a normal rounded base bong with a straight tube and no special twists, turns, ashcatchers, percolators or diffused slits... just a glass bong that is now in two pieces. The fracture happened about halfway up the base, so now the bottom half looks sort of like a big, thick glass ashtray, and the other half is obviously the top half of the spherical base and then rest of the stem n such.
edit: Here are two pics, one of the top put back on the bottom half, then what it currently looks like... in two pieces. sucks doesnt it? Frosty was a good man... good man. *sniffle*

    - BREAK -
    \___/

I was wondering if we gorilla glued it together if 1. the glue would hold, and 2. if it would make a good enough seal. No, I'm not an idiot stoner who jus wants to slop glue on my broken bong and stick it together tho... obviously I'll line up the fracture (there was no shattering or shards by the way, its almost a 100% clean cut, and i work with stained glass so glass isnt alien to me...)
Any thoughts or tricks on putting this bad boy back together?

P.S. - I live in Ft. Collins, CO where Kind Creations is located in as you may know, and you also might know they do glass repair... BUUUUT there's no way they can repair a bong after it's been "tainted" by weed can they? I mean if I cleaned it (easier now wouldn't you say?) and left the slide out obviously, would they fix it for me? any know?

P.P.S. - Jus got a new digi camera for Xmas so I'll try to post some pics of Frosty and his split personality later to help out... careful, you may shed tears :(

  2. You should try to use a plumber's epoxy or sealant as opposed to Gorilla Glue, since it's designed to be waterproof. Unless you can clean it to absolute perfection, no smell or anything, I wouldn't take it to get it repaired, you might get in trouble. Sorry to hear about your loss

    R.I.P. bong

  3. part of my bong broke a few weeks ago too. what i did is like Ssstone said, i put the two pieces back togeather w/ epoxy. Then i was left with a big hole, so i cup part of a
whoopee cushion and epoxied that on also. its air tight again with no leaks

  4. I'd say use some High Temp RTV Silicone, Type 650.. I'm not sure what colors it comes in, only kind I have is red. Stuff takes a few hours to set and is air tight. Incredibly air tight.

  5. RTV is definitely air tight as its meant to be a gasket sealer. Although it will not hold as an adhesive and will separate under stress. Any epoxy will do but I've seen JB Weld do some amazing things.

  6. id say go with the gorilla glue worked for me for three bongs now.
