Attention all pentesters! I see you creepin' GC from time to time, so I know you're here. I'm looking to get started in the field as a white hat computer security consultant. I have a basic knowledge of what to do (I'm a comp sci major, so it comes with the territory), but I'm looking to learn more practical knowledge. My questions include these: what distros/programs have you found irreplacable? What companies/organizations have you worked for or are looking to hire pentesters? What training or certifications have you found to be useful in your day-to-day work or in getting a job? What languages (scripting, machine, higher-level) would you recommend I learn or brush up on? Anything else I should know or watch out for? Basically, any and all practical knowledge or advice that you'd be willing to share with a newcomer to the field would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
