any news on texas succeeding?

Discussion in 'Politics' started by ImurderBlunts, Jan 2, 2013.

  1. I can't find anything of google, are they or any states closer to succeeding?

  2. None of the states actually wanted to secede.

A point zero something percent of the population signed an online petition. It was never going to go anywhere.

  3. Cause It aint gonna happen

Go to usgovernment.com or some shit there's a whole bunch of petitions. The petition to make Duncan Trussel the Emperor of the world had more signatures then most of the petitions to secede last time I checked

Sent from my iPhone using GC Forum

  5. Just another example of the worthless nature of Internet petitions.

  6. The federal government would probably nuke a state before allowing it to leave the union.

  7. What states want to leave the union in the first place?

  8. Succeeding at doing what?

  9. Petitions have no legal weight. It didn't mean anything except a bunch of citizens are pissed. There's petitions about a ton of things, including some with millions of signatures but it doesn't mean anything

  10. That's not the point. If any state did, it wouldn't be allowed. It wasn't allowed 150 years ago when the federal government was much smaller and less powerful than it is now, so it definitely isn't going to be happening now that the federal government possesses the greatest military force in world history.

  11. I dont think you people know anything about our countries history -_-"

Do any of you even know why texas is called 'the lone star state'....

    jesus christ...

  12. No, I understood your point. You are, once again, just trying to steer the conversation away from the actual specifics, and turning it into another generalized rant against the federal government.

My point is that no state actually wants to secede, which is what was implied in the original post. A small percentage of individuals signed a petition. It's important to be specific in the difference.

I mean, sure- in some hypothetical situation where a state actually did want to secede, the federal government wouldn't allow it. The civil war pretty much cleared up that question. But what does that have to do with the online petitions that cropped up after the election that the OP asked about?

  13. They sure do give a lot to rant about ;)

  14. As for the War Between the States clearing up the question of the right to secede: it didn't.

If I use violence to take $200 from you, does that clear anything up? Is it no longer a moral -- and legitimate -- issue just because I overpowered you?

At any rate, any political group has the right to secede from any other political group -- just as the colonies seceded from Britain. If that right is interfered with, then they are not free.

  15. My post was about secession in general. It's appropriate for this topic. Go troll someone else.

  16. I was just interested in seeing what generic response they would give because the signatures were over the threshold of them being required to answer.

I'll have to look it up.

  17. Sad but true

  18. u dont really want any state to succede from the union do you?????
because if you do, texas will fuck your state up
    lol

  19. Did you mean succeeding at seceding?
