Any IPhone users?

  1. The new IPhone 14's are coming out the 7th supposedly and I figured it might be a good time to upgrade. The one I have now is a 6 and Apple is dropping updates on anything older than 8's I guess. Plus my battery is starting to need recharged a lot. Gonna miss my earphone jack. Any suggestions on any particular Iphone from 8 to 12? I like cheaper price but would rather avoid junk. The basic X, 11, and 12 seem reasonably similar, any reason to pick one over the other? No special phone use here, random pics, scroll the net, check mail. My gut is saying that the 6 lasted a long time, just go by price. But some places claim a huge battery life difference between the three. The price difference between the three isn't all that much, and will drop as soon as the 14's are announced. Anyone have a favorite or a reason to get one over another?

  2. Do you absolutely need a smartphone? I would highly recommend getting a 'dumb' phone.

I had an iPhone 6 on release, first and last smartphone I'll ever get. Made the the conscientious choice to walk away from them and I've never felt better.

  5. The touch screen gimmick back in 07-08 was INSANE, it was revolutionary, people had to have them! Even me, I fell for it: hook, line, and sinker. Not anymore. Apps and social media are not only useless, they're detrimental to your mental well being.

  7. I'm not worried about cops, I'm more concerned with the addictive nature of the devices and how most people cannot seem to function without having one. I think they increase anxiety in most users and when I was in university, I noticed a LOT of people wouldn't look up at others or try to speak to them, they'd 'hide' behind the s̶c̶r̶e̶e̶n̶ security blanket and trying to talk to people was more of a chore than anything.

Needless to say, my uni experience was one of the most antisocial experiences I've ever endured. It was brutal.

  8. I got the 11 for work. I got no complaints, on battery time or quality or anything. I'm pretty far from expertise, though. I watched a Marques Brownlee video on youtube to decide, lmao. He gushed on the 11, kinda 'ol reliable.

Do your own research though, this post is coming with a big fat 'Doesn't know what he's talking about' flag.

  9. I most likely will get new iPhones for Herself, and myself… I’ve an iPhone 12, and upgrade on the even numbers… Silly really, there’s not that much to gain usually by trading so often, and the one I have does all I need… Memory is a big deal,,, mine fills up fairly quickly…

  10. I have to agree. Other than commenting on the occasional Youtube video GC is the only social media I have. No twatter or FB or any of that. Basically addicted to information at this point. News, videos, researching whatever catches my attention.
I've always assumed that they can do that and pretty much anything they want remotely. I'm sure they listen 24/7 but I have to think that most of that is automated. Too many phones out there for actual people to monitor all the time.

  11. There have always been stupid people in the world but smartphones seem to attract the worst of them. With selfies, duck-faces, dick pics, and the inability to self-solve normal everyday situations - it just blows my mind. People that use them have this false sense of security. The world was a better place with road maps, dial-up, and the Dewey decimal system.

  13. After watching and listening to a lot of vids I think I'm gonna go with the 12mini. I can get a certified pre-owned one from my provider for free. Still small enough to fit in pockets, new enough that won't need another one for years, hopefully. But the battery on this one is going, even as little as I use it. My usage was up 107% last week, for an average of 25 mins a day. And still keep it plugged in when not out and about or it dies fairly quickly.

The company is releasing the iPhone 14 in two sizes, the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus.

The new handsets are capable of sending an emergency call for help via satellite. The phone will display the whereabouts of passing satellites overhead and demonstrate how to point the device at them correctly.

It can take from 15 seconds to a few minutes to send a basic message.

"The investment to add satellite capability should not be underestimated," said Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight.

"It will likely have taken Apple years to put all the pieces of the puzzle in place, including a commercial agreement with satellite provider Globalstar, and the creation of the infrastructure needed to pass messages to the emergency services."

Tech analyst Paolo Pescatore said he believed the innovation was good news for consumers "in hard to reach areas".

"It is encouraging to see providers starting to get serious about using satellite - ultimately reliable and robust connectivity is still highly sought after among all users," he said.

  19. Final decision is a 13 Mini. Many reasons, but main one is I changed plans with same provider and will save $40/month. The more vids I've watched the better it's looking. Mainly rave reviews, and actually just a fuzz smaller than my 6S. You'd think that with the arthritis I'd prefer a bigger phone for easier use. But it actually works out the opposite for me. And I like the green one.
