Got a cheap hookah last year but used it twice then shelved it cuz they are a pain to keep going with the coals and stuff not to mention cleaning them. Anyone have any tips or tricks on how to make them easier to manage?
get better coals and a torch. they can be a pain to light. i get lazy and poor a little bit of charcoal fluid and start it that way.
Huge tip i learned, use molasses tobacco mixed with your pot, bowls will last waaaay longer and it tastes great
yeah bro use the molasses tobacco. You can also buy flavoured molasses to mix with your yandi if your dont like tobacco. Back in the day we used honey (old hippy trick)
Gross... that stuff is not meant for human inhalation. First, you've got to get a quality hookah. It doesn't have to be expensive.. it just needs to be designed well. If the airway is restricted anywhere along the line, you're going to hate using it. When you asked for hookah pros I assumed you were looking for advanced packing tips or something.... but yeah using a cheap hookah can really really suck sometimes. You feel like you're busting a lung and its always harsh.
Buy some coconut coals, learn how to make holes in the foil properly, buy better tobacco and you can buy a stainless steel plate instead of inhaling them foil fumes.... (it's also a time saver)
Coconut coals + Coal Burner = Infinity better than Instant light coals. Coconara or Chronic Hookah Coals are probably the best Natural Coconut Coals. I could keep the list going on brands etc, but if you really want some insight, you probably should start checking out hookah forums ... this forum is designed for smoking other things ...
I personally thing that molasses tobacco is terrible. You taste the molasses way more than any flavor added to it. Starbuzz makes a great product, you really get a flavored smoke as opposed to molasses with a hint of something. As far as foil goes...we buy what we called a turtle... just a metal screen with prongs so you can bend them so it sits stable on the bowl. Kinda looks like a turtle.
Ah I suppose i should have mentioned i only got the cheap one for a weekend trip to the islands so wasn't worth breaking the bank for it. Recently however I have been seeing alot of nice ones around and wasnt sure if it getting a quality one would be be worth the trouble.
It's still there. You can't add it... burn it... and expect that nothing is left behind. You can get some vaporization with hookahs but the longer the coal sits there the more inevitable it becomes that the weed will burn. Yes its worth it. It doesn't need to be top of the line... just better than the cheapest models. My roommate picked one up from someone who was about to throw it away. It had some limescale but beyond that its fine. I've since discovered that my interest in smoking hookah had cooled off only because I never felt like using the shitty hookah we had before. The only thing that matters functionally is that the path for the smoke is not obstructively small. It also needs to not fall apart... lol.
Hmm the only thing that has me on the fence still is cleaning it. I clean my bong after every sesh cuz dirty bongs are gross and they smell bad, and dissasembling a hookah and scrubbing it everyday seems like a bigger time investment and alot more work than heading out to a parlor and dropping $4 on it.
Getting a quality hookah is infinitely better than smoking out of a crap rig. I'd recommend Khalil Mamoon (KM). Most vendors will provide some cleaning brushes, so cleaning the stem itself should be pretty easy. KMs are large hookahs, often 32" or so (although you can get some smaller brass ones that are 26"). If you are looking for a more portable hookah the best bang for your buck will be to look at MYA hookahs. Although they are chinese made, they are well respected. Take a look at the MYA Bambino, comes with a case, about 12" tall, and smokes like a champ. If I need to bring a hookah on the go, that's what I bring. I actually spend more time preparing a hookah than cleaning it. If you need more advice, I could go on about bowls, hoses, shisha ... I've done my research and am an active member on several hookah forums.
Oh im not worried about where to find one, my friends from iran or syria get some amazing ones and use them frequently. I think that I'll stick to the parlors for a while until I can find a few friends who will be willing to come smoke regularly. Everyone I know loves it but they rarely go for some reason. Does it cause donald trump hair or something i dont know about?
It's only $4 bucks to smoke at a lounge? Not bad. All the lounges in my area are terrible, hence the reason I owe and operate my own rigs. Not to mention, all the lounges in my area are highway robbery.
Get a hookah with a regular bowl instead of the large bowl you need coals for. That way it's just like a bong, only hookah style. Mines way better than that one, but it gets the idea across.
If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were an Asian friend of mine who taught me everything I know about hookah and got me to check out some of the forums... lol The bowls do sell separately. You're better off buying a hookah that comes with a standard bowl and buying a smaller one than the other way around. The fittings on the type you're talking about don't always accept regular hookah bowls because they're made for use as bongs.
