Any good charities or non-profit organizations?

  1. So I'm a senior in high school (yes I'm 18, please don't start on me ) and I've decided that I really want to start using my time more wisely. It seems that all I do these days is school and work, but I work 2-3 days a week and the rest of the time I'm not doing much at all. I talk a lot about how we should strive to better the world, but how can I say that if I'm not contributing myself? So I'm looking into charities or organizations that I can volunteer at.

What I'm particularly interested in is helping those who have gone through abuse/abuse prevention, or helping the homeless/less fortunate. I feel strongly about heroin prevention and other horrible drugs, but weed gets grouped in there too often and I don't want to be part of something spreading blatant lies.

Right now I'm considering KUTO (Kids Under Twenty-One), which is where people under 21 volunteer to answer the phone on a hotline that other youths can call if something happens, like they're in an abusive household or have really any type of emergency where they'd rather talk to someone around their own age. However, I'm still looking around so I can pick something I feel really strongly about, so I'm trying to get some more ideas.

If anyone is apart of an organization or knows of one I would love to hear about it, even if it's not related to something I mentioned above (abuse, homeless). I'm in the St. Louis area, if that makes a difference.

    Thanks, guys!
