Any Console Gamers Switching To Pc Gaming?

Discussion in 'Gamer's Heartbeat' started by I Don't Grow, May 31, 2013.

  1. I've been a long time PC Gamer, But I did try going to console. I purchased a PS3 about a year ago and a whole bunch of games, Unfortunately that lasted about 2 weeks and I went straight back to PC gaming so now my console has been gathering dust on a shelf because I refuse to sell it (Netflix and stuff).

With the next gen consoles coming out and both the Xbox One and the PS4 basically killing used gaming, Who's making the switch to PC gaming?

Steam holiday sales you can get very good games for as cheap as $2-3.

I've been adding up over the past 3 years and now have around 350 games on my Steam account itself + 6 in Origin and about 5 more that don't use either Steam or Origin.

My cousin and one of my friends is also making the switch solely for that reason and they've both been console gamers for YEARS.

  2. I did a while back. Couldn't be happier, PC gaming is superior in almost every way in my eyes.

  3.
Not meaning to be rude, but a little research will show you that Sony welcomes used games on their next platform.

Now, the reason I myself am personally a console gamer, is because I have life things to worry about, and don't got money shooting out of my ass. I have bills, I need to buy food, I need to pay my car, and no, I don't have the best job around. So, I stick to consoles, and will stick to consoles until further notice.

However, when I do come up with the extra grand or two, or I do get the time and knowledge on building computers, then I will build or buy a gaming PC. Until then, no, I will be staying with Sony in the upcoming Gen, and possibly even for the PS5, who knows.

  4.
You don't need a grand. I used a hard drive from an old computer other than that all the parts for my pc cost me $300 and it kicks my 360's ass in everyway. For $50 more i could have gotten a graphics card that's would give similar or better performance than what's rumored to be in the PS4, but i couldn't afford it because i'm a broke student.

I can't really game on my laptop other than for Nintendo 64, PS, Gameboy Color, Sega Dream-cast because my processor and graphics card don't fit the requirements for new brand console emulators or PC games. If I had more money then I'll buy a gaming PC or laptop.

  6. i use to play pc alot back in the cod 4 and cod waw days then i got a 360 never played my pc anymore so i sold it then i started gaming when battlefield 3 came out on pc and i sold that pc for a ps3 slim then i sold that ps3 slim for bud now i have a fat ps3 and im not gonna sell it. ill prob get a ps4 i don't really like pc gaming when i game i want to sit back on the couch not sit in a chair and i like controllers better there more relaxed and i know i can use a controller on pc but it's just not the same pc gaming is dying well maybe not dying but it's certainly not growing imo. i dont want a flame war so i dont want to here how elite pc gamers are.

  7. i started out on consoles (nintendo > dreamcast > ps2 >360) then built a computer in 08 and loved it.  unfortunately i hit a rough spot in life and had to sell it off to pay rent.  now that i have a good job again, i bought another 360 and enjoy it.  but the keyboard and mouse just feel right on certain games.  im just happy my crappy laptop can run source games since those are the big ones i put time into (tf2 and CS:S mainly).

ill be switching back to pc gaming whenthe new consoles come out so i can get in on the sweet, sweet price drop we'll be seeing in computer hardware.

  8.
PC. I had a "gaming" laptop once(wasn't meant for gaming, it just had good specs)and I played and installed maybe 5 games on it, and it burnt out on me.

PC's I would imagine to be more durable.

  9. Made the switch a little over a month ago and don't regret looking back. I went all out for my first build (roughly $1,500) but any game that tries to tackle it gets dominated. It amazing just how little details add so much immersion into a game (PhysX in BL2, example.)

Also, getting a beautiful machine up and running doesn't take longer than maybe 2 hours to get the parts together and another hour or 2 for wiring (3-4 if you REALLY wanna have good cable management). I work practically full time and go to school full time yet I still managed to build my rig.

It's such a fun experience building a computer, I've started asking my friends if they're thinking about building a computer cause I want to build another. It's such a learning experience building a computer.

I'll get the PS4 eventually once I know the exclusives for that console, but the XB1 can fuck off. I stayed with Microsoft so long through that console and now they're glorifying it into a dvr.

  10. PC's are cheaper so it will be more durable but they aren't portable so I can't take it with me, but it's far more easier to replace certain components inside the system and replace with much more faster parts (graphics card for 3D), high performance micro-processor (for faster loads instead of freezing or skipping) plus not forgetting if it's Windows then you also have to worry about BSOD.

I just built my first PC 2 weeks ago and I've been loving it. Today I set my ps3 controller up and its even better (keyboard+mouse aren't bad but I'm way more familiar with controllers). I will definitely not be buying a new console for quite some time. Maybe once they drop in price though.

</blockquote>For the cost of a new console combined with the cost of an average desktop, you can have yourself a PC that will whoop any console. And you can upgrade it over time to whoop any future consoles. :bongin:

I have no idea how to insert smilies now. Oh well. Nevermind that. You have a controller, TV, and peripherals so you could build a beast for about $800.

  13. ^ There you have it!

Also, If you feel that you'd miss the simplicity of a controller, There's various ways to use an Xbox 360 or a PS3 controller on your PC!

Although I prefer mouse and keyboard gaming, I play with a 360 controller sometimes.

I switched to a PC a few months ago, not really because of the "next-gen" consoles, but because I wanted to play PC exclusives. Minecraft and Civilization alone make a PC 100% worth it IMO. :) The game selection of PC is just much better to me.

I used to always think I'd hate mouse/keyboard controls (I've always used consoles prior to this PC), but I do like them for most games. I had my couch set up so I could sit on the couch with a controller and play the PC games, but I actually prefer the desk/keyboard 90% of the time.

  15. Used to be a PC gamer, but constantly upgrading my system is just too much expense/hassle for me. That might just be the cheap lazy bastard inside of me.

I do prefer PC gaming over console gaming, but consoles have my heart simply because I can buy the system and not worry about having the best specs; everyone is on the same level as long as you have decent internet/wifi. When it comes to PC gaming, your specs can make all the difference in the world to your experience.

  16. When I first started playing video games, it was on the PC with my dad and little bro.  We were too young to really grasp core concepts of the game, but we used to play Time Commando (anyone remember this???? Dope game) and the MechWarrior Series (My dad even got this dope ass joystick we used to use)

Then in 2nd grade I got a PSone, and I was a console gamer for many many many years.

Probably around 15-16, I started playing PC Games again, specifically Runescape, WoW, and CS. And Half Life 2

When the PS3 came out, I basically stopped PC gaming and went back to the consoles for a few years.

When I went to college, my dad kept the PS3 at the housed for him and my bro, and I got a pretty nice laptop to use for school (Asus), this started me back into PC gaming.  Played WoW & TF2 and SC2 constantly.  As well as numerous torrented games.  But I was a stupid kid, and used to run my laptop on my bed and just generally take bad care of it.  When I dropped outta school in May 2011, my laptop had a virus and would overheat and shutoff.

When I moved back home, I was tired of sharing the PS3 with my dad/bro, so I got my own personal one for my room.  I played it A LOT, but one day, I tried propping my laptop up and directing a personal fan into it to cool it off.  To my suprise, it actually could run some games.  I played a lot of League of Legends in those few months because it was the one game that wouldn't get my laptop too hot.  This February, that laptops backlight finally went out. (4 1/2 years!)

I just recently got a new ASUS laptop on NewEgg for like $680.  Its a pretty high end laptop, and runs everything I want.  Haven't touched my Ps3 in months except for Netflix.  The biggest pro with me is the ability to torrent games, I don't always have a lotta money, but I sure as hell wanted to play Bioshock: Infinite. 12 hours later, I had it.

I prefer PC gaming because you can always boost your specs up higher then a console, but I also am more of a fan of RPG/RTS/MOBA style games, then standard games on the PS3.

  17. I AM going to as soon as I get a chance.

  18. I have the same PC I've had for like 5 years now and I can play any new game that comes out.  Haven't upgraded since I built it

Sure beats paying out the ass for a console, too.  At least with a PC its a computer and a gaming system - a far better one at that

  19. i have a lot of respect for PC gamers cuz there's so many things involved with building and updating the hardware, but i can't see myself making that big of an investment. sure you can get the games a lot cheaper, but who really needs 500+ games?

console games have price drops all the time, and if you know where to look online you can get em cheaper than stores ie Amazon Warehouse Deals. cheap games with free shipping.

i saw the GTA4 complete edition for $15 on amazon, while it's still $30 in stores.

plus i like having hard copies of my games so i can look at em all stacked up :metal:

  20. I seen someone playing GTA: San Andreas on ther computer at school and it looked cool, so now I'll be buying every GTA available for pc.
