Any Alternatives To Rubbing Alcohol When Cleaning A Vape??

Discussion in 'Cannabis Vaporizers & Vaping Tips' started by DoeDabs, Jun 4, 2014.

  1. Ive been told to just use alcohol and it will it evaporate but i still feel like i can taste it. This has happened with both pax and arizer solo. I was wondering if anyone has any just as effective cleaning solutions or methods

  2. I have the same apprehension. Still not cleaned my box with alcohol.

Seem to have got away with it do far lol

@[member="DoeDabs"] - Ok, just curious how you ran the iso alcohol through the Pax. What they want you to do is wet down a pipe cleaner with the stuff and run it through the vapor path. I would do this when cleaning my Pax. I found to make sure all the alcohol has evaporated, I would turn on the Pax and let it do just that. I didn't think I could taste it afterwards, but thats what I did when I actively used my Pax. Thats also one of the main reasons why I stopped using it. Cleaning it was just a pain in the ass.

Its not bad to do with your Box @[member="boydamien"], but there is a trick to it. What you want to do is dip the MFLB brush into some alcohol. Then turn the MFLB upside down and gently brush the screen. Try not to hit the wood near the opening and keep it upside down until its evaporated. It should do it pretty quick and if you get 99% it will evaporate real fast. Its good to do everyone once in a while with the MFLB. Other than that, brushing it out works just fine. Keeping it upside down will make sure none of the alcohol gets to the wood under the trench. Wood hates alcohol as it will screw up the taste of the box probably, and also dry out the wood. And after you've done that, just to make sure everything is evaporated and all the grossness is out of the MFLB, open the top, and hold the battery in for about 1 min. That will vaporize off anymore funkiness.

  4. I did just that. Put alcohol on a pipe cleaner in put it thru (after dabbing off extra alcohol) i let it sit over night to dry than ran on high this mornin but the evaporation wouldnt stop coming off the pax to the point i figured it couldnt be alcohol heating at that point maybe just access grime i missed when cleaning it. But while using it today its been tasting off and i been experiencing headaches after each session

Ugh! I'm sorry thats happening to you :( Thats one of the things I also dislike about the Pax. It has a narrow vapor path hence why you have to clean it so much. I never experience that with the Pax after cleaning but it sounds like there's something weird going on. I did however have something similar happen to me when I didn't rinse my bong out after cleaning it. It tasted funny and the high was off. But it passed after a couple of bowls.

How many sessions with the Pax has this lasted?

  6. Maybe three, it has seemed to wear off some and yes i cant lie i been having to clean this thing every other day as im at frequent use

Ok at least its wearing off. And welcome to Pax ownership. They do actually recommend you clean it after each use, or every other session.

  8. Can I just ask if nobody minds- why does the Pax need cleaning so often? Is it super noticeable when it needs it or something? Like someone else said- I still haven't cleaned my MFLB and I've had that coming on 3 years now...     :hide:

The Pax is an interesting vape to me. Having owned one a Pax for a few months, replacing my MFLB with it, only to go BACK to my MFLB after a month due to the Pax having substandard efficiency, I can definitely comment on its cleaning. That confused me too. MFLB, clean up takes 2 seconds; just brush it out. Even the "deep clean" takes less time than cleaning a Pax.

Basically if you look at the Pax design and look at its vapor path, that sucker is small when compared to the MFLB, or my Firewood. I'm not sure why they decided to do that. I remember I didn't clean the Pax for 3 days, and I used it pretty heavily. When I went to clean it, the build up was starting to form in the vapor path. Getting a pipe cleaner in there, even drenched in alcohol, was a pain in the butt. I got it clean, but not as good as I wanted it to. I just couldn't get the pipe cleaner in there good enough to clean the walls of the vapor path (even if I kinked the pipe cleaner; but that made it harder to get into the vapor path).

That as the only place I used alcohol. I never used it in the oven. I would just replace the screen when I needed to (which was once a week or so with my usage). So its the design of the Pax that causes its frequent cleaning. Really, if the Pax was manual control, it might make it a bit more bearable.

If I were to make a Pax 2.0, I'd make it manual control ,and widen that vapor path, get rid of that mouthpiece/power switch combo, and redesign the oven. If you look at the Indica vape, which is very similar to the Pax, it doesn't need nearly as much cleaning, and works basically the same.

As time goes on, it becomes harder and harder for me to recommend a Pax to someone.

The Pax can suffer from what's known as the "temp light issue" if not cleaned regularly.

There is a metal tab that clicks into position when the mouthpiece is popped up, which essentially turns the unit on. When the Pax gets dirty, this metal tab can get stuck and not click into position correctly, causing the Pax to believe you have completely removed the mouthpiece in order to adjust the temperature setting. The Pax's LED will display the current temperature setting (i.e. the "temp light") instead of heating up.

My description of the tab and its exact function may not be 100% accurate, but the bottom line is the same: failure to clean the Pax can result in the "temp light issue".

  11. Thanks guys. It makes sense now :)
