Any actual news sites in the U.S.?

  1. Objective news sources have become a thing of the past in my country, so I'm wondering where other people go to get actual news instead of agenda-driven and relentless propaganda. The best I've found so far are sites like AFP and the BBC, in every case they are non-U.S. sites.

  2. I Like BBC every now and again............

There are "News" stations....that are ACTUALLY designated AS NEWS....Like CNN and MSNBC.........but they fall prey to the propaganda that is out there......but I believe they fact check their information preeeety well before they air it.

We also have other channels that are ACTUALLY designated as "ENTERTAINMENT"......but still slap News on the end of their information.....

So yeah, you DO have to be careful where you get your info from.....

It's about editing choices and spin, not fact checking. E.g. yesterday, the entirety of CNN's online front page was devoted to gun violence stories, meant specifically to frighten an entire country into ignoring and compromising our Second Amendment. In fact it's what motivated my posting of this thread. Did they post any inaccurate information in any of these stories? Probably not.

  4. Yeah absolutely.........that's how they get ratings..............and how the people running the Country want it.

They can......and do definitely dress up a pig sometimes....but at the end of the day....it's still a pig...just with a bunch of non-essentials thrown in there.

Now other "media outlets" will look at that dressed up pig and say.............it looks JUST like a......penguin......so they SAY..........hey look, it's a penguin...............but that's not true.....it LOOKS like a penguin...........but it's a pig.....

I hope people understand where I am trying to go with this.

  5. I know what you're saying, but we all know what the problem is. So I'm more interested in finding out where people go for objective and non-agenda driven news, especially online.

  6. Drudge report is good. Cspan is good. Can't believe somebody said cnn and msnbc. Lol. Wake up.

  7. No no....you misunderstood me maybe.....I said CNN and MSNBC for the mainstream media that most people look at/get.......I prefer them to other channels....but to get down into the "nitty gritty" of it...you'll need to do a bit of legwork............

Or watch Rachel Maddow.....she's pretty good about putting the facts out there without too much of a spin............in my opinion

  8. Be careful about letting the entertainment industry feed you the news. Question everything, even if you agree with it. When you see a video clip, try to search for a full length version.
Most of all realize, nobody is here to give you the straight dope just because they think you're a really swell guy. When they show you something up high, look down "FAST".
I like things like this: Home | United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary
Even when you see the spin here, at least you saw it before the entertainment industry feeds you their own edited version. Not as exciting as Hollywood and not always in time with current MSM. But at least you know what was really said (surrounded in context) when you go surfing your favorite entertainment outlets.
In a nutshell, I don't believe what you're asking for exists.

  9. I agree with you Ronhip.....question everything and research for yourself!

Are we talking trying to find a news outlet that is STRAIGT 100% facts with NO opinion or suggestions about it??? Yeah, that's probably going to be hard to find......ESPECIALLY where majority of Americans can watch/hear/read it.

  10. The PBS NewsHour is pretty good. No need to sell ad space, so no incentive to sensationalize the news or make it "entertaining."

Also, I don't think it's a bad thing to get your news from non-US sources sometimes. I think that Americans in general should make more of an effort to see things from a global perspective. Just my opinion.

  12. Maybe no longer exists, but any American over the age of 50 remembers when objective, non-agenda news reporting was the default in our country. We were the world's beacon for objective news reporting for over a century, until our media and politicians were married during Reagan's first term. Now the same group of people give us fake left propaganda and fake right propaganda, Maddow and Drudge are examples, and the American people are left abysmally ignorant about what's actually going on in our country and world.

  13. I agree with everything you said except Maddow and propaganda...I feel she does a pretty good job at stating facts.........and I can differentiate the facts and her opinion about the facts...i just happen to agree with most of her opinions as well

  14. Again imo it's about editing choices, not facts and opinions of facts. Turn on Maddow on any given day and one already knows what she'll be talking about. Go to CNN, MSNBC or FNC etc and one already knows what stories they'll find. It's not news, it's agenda-driven propaganda. It got so bad that reader discussion forums, the one chance people had to publicly respond to this propaganda, were pulled from virtually all of our major news sites.

  18. A poll from 10 or so years ago found that our country's most trusted journalist is a comedian (Jon Stewart). We have no objective news industry anymore.

  19. You should consume multiple sources, preferably from various sides. Separate opinions from facts and try to see through the bias of the "news" source.

Critical thinking skills seem to be really lacking in the modern world. People want to be fed information via a heavily tailored "news feed"... Cutting themselves off from things they don't want to see or opinions they don't share. This customized world view is very ignorant, isolating and places one in a bubble. Albeit, comfortable it is also deeply influenced by the bias and completely shuts down one's ability to consider things from a different perspective.
