Anxiety

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by steppenwolf, Feb 15, 2010.

  1. Does anyone suffer from social anxiety?
    I do.
I was wonderin' if you guys had ways of coping with it?
Obviously everyone is going to have differnt ways, but does smoking
help you, or does it make it worse?

At times i'll suffer from a panic attack and start hyperventilating.
I haven't ever smoked afterwards. Do you think it would help me
    calm down a bit faster?
and after said attacks if I just go on like nothing happened I feel
weird and sorta outta place. At times i'll lose all sense of reality and
just be like in a dream like state. has it ever happend to you?

  2. You're right down my ally bro, I suffer from the same thing and take pills for them. But I can say for me, cannabis has been a miracle, especially for the anxiety attacks. One or two tokes when you feel one coming on and I chill right out.

Yes smoking is different for everyone, but depression and anxiety have known to be treated by cannabis for many years. Not to say that I don't notice the anxiety, but it basically makes me feel normal, like i feel i should. So my man if I was you I would try it, I find that sativa strains are much better for my condition and Indicas are great for helping me sleep,

Stay strong brother you aren't alone!

  3. yea man i do the same thing hyperventalate and my body starts to go numb. i dont take any meds for it, just try breathing excersizes but i do have some emergency valium lol. you arnt alone!!!

  4. It's called depersonalization. It's only happened to me once or twice.

And I've also suffered from anxiety since I can remember. Smoking usually helps, but it all depends on who I am with, where we are, and the general vibe. Sometimes when I smoke with a lot of people I don't know too well, I can become anxious (this happens when I'm in large groups in general), but if I'm by myself or with a close friend or two, then the herb definitely calms my nerves.

The first three times I've smoked were the only times I've had panic attacks from cannabis. Thank science I didn't give up :D

  5. Thanks man.
I mean I'm not presrcibed anything and I don't know
how i'll do with the pills, having to take them isn't something i'd
like to do, but It would help. I have an appointment on Wednesday. Kinda
    nervous.
I know I prefer sativa way more than Indicas, because with sativa It's more
of a head high and motivates me to get out and do things, but I haven't smoked it a
    long while.

Just taking a break for a few months.

I appreciate the help and advice, I don't really know anyone else with the
same condition, so this helps a lot.

  6. Oh damn. I never knew there was
an actual name for the condition I thought It was just
    something werid that happened.

I mean It just something I'm really uncomfortable dealing
with. It's happened for years and now I'm just motivated
    with getting help.

    Thank you:)

  7. I've also been taking Paxil for about six or seven years. The doctors also tried other kinds, but I decided to stick with the Paxil because it's what worked best for me.

If you do get put on meds, just know it will be about a week or two to start feeling it working. And if the side effects are unpleasant, then let the doctor know so they can try something else.

  8. Yeah I've been on pills for so long I'm hoping if N.Y. passes the medical bill I can wean off all my perscripion meds (Just what the pharmasutacles want!) But anyway I'd just take it as it comes, you can't really do anything man it's who you are, but finding what helps is important and for me, cannabis has been that thing for a year now, and shit I used to be so anti-pot before I learned the truth about it, Now it has truely been a life saver!

  9. I see I see.
    So basically experimentation?
to find the right thing? alright I see:)
Thanks I mean it really does help.

  10. Damn I took paxil since 7th grade and in 10th tried to kill myself, come to find in kids under 18 thats a side effect, good to know. That shit fucked with my head hardcore, I'm now on Effexor which has been the best for me so far, besides a good sativa of course =)

    this!!!

Effexor worked alright for me, just heightened my mood a bit. but Paxil was the one that completely got rid of the panic attacks. The only think I hate about it is the fucking withdrawals.

And they put me on Paxil when I was 15 O_O

  12. Yeah I was the same way for sooo long. I hated people that smoked weed and I always thought It was something that triggered anxiety. To me it was something to look down at people for. Until my first experience with it about a year ago, and ever since then It's opened new doors to freedom and creativity. I truely believe I found myself and I've loved it ever since.
So ever since then every time i'd have an attack I wouldn't smoke just incase it worsed it, but hey what the hell?
If it helps some people It's worth a shot.

  13. Well that's good you didn't see the same shit I did, yeah i notice that heightened mood on effexor, almost like a bipolar effect, but smoking really helps balance the unwanted side effects of those pills.

  14. I'll put it this way, my anxiety attacks are like me being pelted with all these fucked up emotions at once, each in waves and triggering different emotions in me. A good smoke allows me to organize those thoughts rather than let them overwhelm me. I would highly recommend it for you my friend, especially if you bennefit from it the way I have.

  15. Anyway, I gotta get goin'.

Step, feel free to shoot me a message if you have any more questions. and good luck with your appointment!!

  16. When ever I have an attack I go wabbly and start breathing super heavely and sometimes can't breathe at all. Then everthing is just a blur and I have to sit down and
concentrate on my breathing, but I can always feel when they are about to start. So when they do I'll just pack a bowl and sit back.
    I really appreciate the help!
I like finding people that have the same problems as I do, talking helps a lot.

  17. I can't say I get anxious. But I don't generally like people to begin with. So I am usually alone and if not then only with one or two people that I know closely. I'd rather just be alone in all honesty, things are just better and easier for me. BUT when I smoke around a group of people it is a lot worse, and I am very uncomfortable. I like it better being high than sober tho, even tho it makes it worse if that makes sense.

  18. Yeah I know what you're sayin'
    I hate people too!
I prefer to be alone while i'm smokin' just
    allows an easier thought process!
when i'm in a big group I just go quiet and it
gets awkward wayy fast, but being high does help
and it doesn't help. I know what you meant:)

  19. well sometimes my anxiety is actually increased when I smoke, because the marijuana helps me see what's really going on with other people and I tend to fall back into my shell. But if I smoke indicas I don't really care about all that and I just relax.

When you really think about it, most of the social anxiety we experience is totally pointless, I mean there's no real reason for it.

  20. In the past year or so, I've really suffered from anxiety and it's been starting taking a toll on me. I've been on Sertraline (Zoloft) for anxiety for months now, and the doctor has already tripled my dosage up to 150mg. It hasn't really done anything at all for the anxiety. I have this constant jittery, anxious feeling at all times, and some times I will have panic attacks. After doing some research, I believe I may have GAD.

Is Paxil better suited for that type of anxiety? All I know is that marijuana provides the ultimate relief.
