Antidepressants

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by Corannos, Feb 25, 2010.

  1. So I was wondering, has anyone heard of a correlation between people who smoke daily and antidepressants? Because 90% of stoners I know all use antidepressants, including myself. So what I'm asking is, does smoking cause apathy, and if yes, how much is a psychologically healthy amount to smoke?

  2. watch out with that, it would all depend I know it will effect your mental state in some way when your high if its over done, I had a friend who lost it and became psychophrenic

  3. you know some sad ppl

i dont know the solid facts or research about this, but as far as my observation goes, only about 5% of people i know that smokes are on antidepressants, and theyve been on them before they started smoking. but i guess it really depends on who you know.

toking makes me happy, not depressed. :D

  4. I think you are putting the horse before the cart.

Must people who smoke habitually have significant stresses and pain and use it as a coping mechanism. That's the common factor, not apathy, although people who are emotionally repressed (apathy) are people without emotional coping mechanisms, so same thing as above.

Weed can seem to cause "apathy" because, just like anti-depressants, it buries the powerful emotions that many people cannot cope with on their own.

Chances are the stoners you think are apathetic actually feel things more intensely than their sober counterparts, they just medicate away when things are feeling too intense.

It's completion by way of consumption. :hello:

  5. I think if you're already prone to depression and you smoke a lot as a means of avoiding it, and you don't confront the issues, then, yes it can make it worse.

As far 90% of the people you know that smoke being on antidepressants... I definitely don't think that's the norm. Most people I know that smoke are pretty morally opposed to SSRI's and the whole pharmaceutical industry, and when and if they go through bouts of depression they deal with it and treat it in other ways

  6. I don't know.. I should be on prozac or some other form of anti-depressant. Due to no Medical insurance I started smoking. I never needed them when I smoked in the past so I guess I just did what I felt I needed to do.

But my depression comes out as anger.. I have never been the crying too much, sad depressed person. I tend to get really angry and hateful towards others. It also seems to work up over the day. So in the evening I smoke and can deal with the daily life stuff at home easier.
