Because the people in charge are liberal as fuck? I mean really how is it surprising? It's not like The Constitution is a mythical god that will strike down anyone who dare defy it with lightning bolts. It's a meaningless piece of parchment unless it's actually enforced. Unfortunately politicians pick and choose which of our rights they want to enforce. Both major parties are bad about this....it's just not guns with (most of) the Conservatives.
I disagree that the constitution is meaningless parchment while I understand what you are saying, it is the law of the land though, and the Constitution is not only the job of the government to enforce, but the people as well.
