# Answer 1 Q Once And For All

1. I keep getting diff info on this . . .

Can u wire a bulb of lower wattage (e.g. a 400W bulb) to a ballast of higher wattage (e.g. a 1000W ballast)????

I BELIEVE the answer is no, but I keep hearing diff things.

does it depend on the ballast???

Someone who REALLY knows please. Like 110% positive.

. . . lol I lied 1 more Q can u wire two bulbs to a ballast and if so does the wattage have to correspond (e.g. two 200W bulbs to one 400W ballast)??? not even sure if 200W bulbs exist but just as an example.

thanks Im no electrician.

2. No, and no. The bulb will either fry immediately from getting more than twice its required power, or it may even explode.

3. thanks man, I knew this, just didn't absolutely know I knew it. lol

4. No and no. Just to emphasize the point, you can not do it. If you put a lower wattage bulb in then you are just changing the resistance that the ballast is expecting. Not sure exactly how the light will react but I will garuntee you that it wont work for long. I think a lower wattage bulb has a lower resistance than a higher wattage bulb. So the the ballast is going to send a lot more current through the electronics and bulb due to the lower resistance of the bulb, which will probably burn wires up or at worst make the bulb and ballast explode! It could be the complete opposite too. A lower wattage bulb may have a higher resistance. You would still have problems, the light just would never light the bulb up completely or at all.

And the same logic is true for the second question you asked. If you have two 200W bulbs in parallel you end up cutting the total resistance in half of what a 200W bulb normally is. If you have 4 ohms in parallel with another 4 ohms, then the total resistance the power supply see's is 2 ohms. Don't ask me why, it just is! 110% sure!
This changes the impedance of the whole circuit, therefore would never work right.

Hope I made some sense, just got done puffin the old Speed Queen by Mandala. Great shit!! I would recomend this strain to everyone's grow room!! Easy to grow, grows small, needs little nutrients, and flowers in 50-60 days!! Extremely uplifting Indica stone, I swear that it has a lot of Sativa in there somewhere.
