  1. Alright so I picked out my grow space. Its going to be a cabinet, may change but thats what I got in mine. And im choosing to make a hps light. Using this guide: http://68.103.98.234:6667/ogi/modules/growfaq/1151.htm . But I have a question. I heard using a mh bulb during veg and then moving to a hps bulb for flowering is the way to go? Can I put a mh bulb into that socket and will it work? Im poor right now, so this is a big spend for me.

  2. You can put a MH conversion bulb of the exact same wattage in there. Must be a conversion bulb, not a plain 'ol MH bulb (the "conversion" part specifically means it is designed to work off a HPS ballast). And you must match the wattage.

  3. O ok man, thanks. So The MH bulb HAS to be 150-watts? for my set up that is. Meaning I cant get a 70-watt bulb? Im going to get a 150.. its just I want to see my options.

  4. Ok, so next week ill be getting the light. But before I do. I was wondering. If I could plug two lights into my set up.

    Look here:

Could I plug a power strip, like this:

into my ballest, and use two lights? My ballest is 150 wats. But I was wondering if its a 150 watts total or thats how much it puts out? I really want to use both a MH and a HPS bulb in my grow.

  5. You could plug two different lights into that power strip -- meaning two different bulbs connected to two different sockets running off of two different ballasts -- as long as the combined load was not too much for the power strip and circuit. You cannot plug a power strip in between your ballast and two different light fixtures.

  6. I dont know if im saying this right.. Or maybe I dont understand. I pulled up Paint and heres what Im thinking.

The image is the ballest being powered by the wall outlet.
Then from the out putput of the ballest.
It goes to a power strip, but only plug two light sockets into it.
From the socket, one goes to the HPS Bulb.
The other goes to the HN Bulb.

Now my question is, will this work? You said, I need a MH conversion Bulb, for it to run off my HPS ballest, right?

Will watts be right? Im just thinking, if the ballest is 150-watts, does that mean it can power 150-watts things. Or it is ONLY for a 150-watt bulb, meaning only one bulb. Im just trying to save myself money here.. Ilready looking at about 250 for a start.

And thanks toastybiz for all your help man, you've been alot of help.

  7. Do not try to put the power strip between the ballast and one or more sockets. One ballast is made to run one matched light. If the socket has a plug-in cord to the ballast you will notice it is not a standard walljack plug, you cannot plug it into the power strip without splicing a different plug onto that cord. You have to really know your way around electricity to try what you are diagramming out there, probably would need a different ballast if it could be done at all.

What you can do with that power strip is plug it into the outlet in the wall and then have more outlets for more different electric appliances.

  8. Well the power strip was just to show you I was diving the ballest. I have a small little three prung power diver that dives into 3. Its orange and I think I got it at Ace or something Hardware store.

But yeah I was just wondering if I could use two lights off that ballest, rather than just one. Thanks man.

  9. Ok, scrap all that. Im going to be getting this ballest:Click Here

Not at the end it said it comes with a system cordset? Is that the ligh socket, that connects to the reflector?
